I bought this machine with very high expectations, in what I thought was a very wide open high-def war. I figured common sense would win and seeing as both hd formats are basically the same (picture quality and sound wise) HD-DVD had a strong chance being the price savy choice that would eventually win out. But in our modern world of BLING, and look how much I paid for this, common sense lost and the highly over-priced blu-ray won. Their is nothing disappointing about this player, in fact it is awesome. If HD-DVD hadn't gone under I would have given it a 5-Star review easily. But with these things getting buried it doesn't serve as much more than a the best regualar DVD player you can buy with HD-DVD capability.Digital camera Review: Always start over after stop!!!!!!!!! I recently purchased this product from Amazon. Picture is great! What no one tells you is this machine does not have "resume play" after stop. If you stop it you ALWAYS go back to the beginning.
With the HD-A3 once the Stop button is hit it will stop the DVD completely. If you want to resume playback from the same spot there is a pause button that will do this but unfortunately you can not press the stop button and resume playback from the same spot.Toshiba says"This machine doesn't have this feature" Don't buy! One star cause the picture's nice.

Just got this hd-dvd player and it works great, perfect picture, great hd sound. The 720p is all you need for any tv under 50 inches. I've compared 1080 and 720 on a 32 in. lcd and you can't tell the diffrence. Save yourself the money on the upgrade to 1080p and go with the 720p. Almost everyone has experienced the HD picture in all its glory. Before the HD-A3, I had never had the pleasure of experiencing lossless audio in my home in 5.1 digital surround sound. The picture is perfect and you will be completely blown away by the sound! You will not regret taking advantage of the deals Amazon has on this player. I've had the player for about a week and I have enjoyed it every day by watching 300, Bourne or Planet Earth. For those who watched Planet Earth in HD on TV, prepare to be impressed again with the full-length episodes!!! It took me a while to finally decide to purchase this player.
