Digital camera reviews of Toshiba HD-A3 720p/1080i HD DVD Player

Digital camera Review: TOshiba is no longer making hd dvd players
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this model for Christmas 2007. It doesn't play all of the hd dvd's, but most of them are ok to play. I get an error code when trying to play The Matrix and Beowulf. This tends to be expensive because you can't play the dvd and can't return the dvd for your money back because it's been opened.
Toshiba has firmware that you can download or they will send to you a cd(out of stock at present). I downloaded the firmware but it still doesn't work.
For the dvd's that I can play they are nice but I feel that buying hd dvd's is a risk now. This player does upgrade regular dvds.

Digital camera Review: Superb Viewing Quality
Summary: 4 Stars

It's a DVD player on steroids, kind of, anyway. Great quality overall as with most Toshiba products I've owned. Since this is a review, and I need to be very picky, the only negative I can think of would be on it's "boot up" time, which seems to take a full minute. In other words, it takes about a minute from the time you power up this unit to the point where it will open the DVD tray. Is this excessive to other HD DVD players? I have no clue but compared to what I have used in the DVD realm it is quite slow in this regard. Not really a show stopper, however. In fact I'm sure that this is due to there being a lot more computing power "under the hood". The last little picky thing I would dock it for is for the lack of picture fine-tuning (such as brightness, contrast, etc.)from the player itself. If this feature is there, I haven't found it yet. My upconverting Pioneer player (an inexpensive unit) spoiled me in this regard. Overall, for the $90 I paid this HD DVD player is amazing. I really hope that studios continue to release titles in this format for a long, long, time. I would buy another at this price point.

Digital camera Review: I paid 78$,
Summary: 5 Stars

paid 78$ , recieved 7 free movies, and now amazon gave me 50$ back

I love HD dvd, I didn't have to pay 400$ for hd movies.

I paid 28$. Yes, go purdue.

Digital camera Review: Toshiba HD-A3 works for me
Summary: 4 Stars

I paid $90 for this after Blu-Ray won the format war, which was a disappointment to me. As mentioned in other reviews it does a great job up-converting DVD's and the HD-DVD picture quality is outstanding.
The start-up is slow but so is my Phillips DVD player. I did not update the firmware as some other reviewers suggested and it plays fine. I am pleased with this unit.

Digital camera Review: just keeping it as a backup
Summary: 3 Stars

the product arrived new in the box and in record time to my address, however, I had purchased it as a back up HDDVD player in case my current one fails.
