Digital camera Review: Good Player

Finally broke down and purchased a HD-DVD player because of Transformers. Overall this is a good player. It will show a pretty good picture but the sound is not so good. As others have stated, it will not play some formats but instead transfers them to 5.1. It has a slow start up time and is suprisingly loud. 1080i looks great (on my 37 inch Samsung) however 1080p is not as sharp, frame for frame as bluray. I have a Sony 46" 1080p LCD and there is a definite difference in picture quality between blueray and hd dvd. Don't get me wrong, HD DVD is MUCH better than standard DVD and the 1080i picture is excellent but not all 1080p players are created equal. Finally, the player is too expensive. The free HD DVD's make it better but you are still very limited too product selection. In addition, HD DVD's life expectancy is not as long as bluray's simply because the data capacity is much less. Honestly, I would recommend getting the 1080i player for two reasons: price and the 1080i picture is pretty good as compared to the 1080p picture.Digital camera Review: Good player

Great player, upscales old DVDs decent. Great 1080p playback on my 52" Toshiba Regza LCDTV.
After a month the player started to fail on me. Checked all DVDs and most of them i played (Both standard and HD DVD) were clean. Started to act like the DVD was skipping.
I am taking one star off for a quality issue. I'm sure once i get this fixed i shouldn't have any more issues. Will update as soon as i get my new player back.
Network connection and menu setup makes it easy for me to upgrade to the latest and greatest firmware.
Great menu system. Go buy this player as it is the best buy out there.

This is a good player. Sad to see the HD DVD go the way of Betamax. This player would still be a good buy for two reasons. 1) It does an exceptional job of UPCONVERTING regular DVD's and 2) The price will surely drop to at least the price of a regular DVD player and hey, the inventory of HD DVD's is already starting to be dumped at fire sale prices, so I plan to pick up my favorite HD DVD movies for next to nothing and if you see this $400.00 player selling new for $50.00??? I took my $50 gift card from Best Buy for the 360 HD DVD player to the store today expecting to get an upscaling standard DVD player. Rather than sink $400 into a blu-ray player, I figure upscaling would be good enough for me for quite a while. Instead I bought this since it upscales and plays my HD DVDs, keeping me from having to throw away "obsolete" disks. For $70, this thing does a great job!
