Digital camera reviews of Toshiba HD-A30 1080p HD DVD Player

Digital camera Review: Great
Summary: 4 Stars

A little slower than my A2, but the 1080p24 image quality is fantastic. Up conversion of standard DVDs is also top notch. Best SD DVD quality seems to be at 720p, for some reason.

Digital camera Review: Great Bang for the Buck
Summary: 5 Stars

Yes I know HD-DVD is dead. Still these are great players with excellent up-conversion chips. Happy with the player and will keep it. HD-DVDs are going to get less expensive now, so I am looking forward to scooping them up. 1080P is 1080P no matter what player or format it is in.

Digital camera Review: Great Buy
Summary: 4 Stars

I think that the Toshiba HD DVD is a great product and buy. Quality is superb. You can't go wrong with this item.

Digital camera Review: Great HD-DVD player!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was pleasantly suprised when my toshiba HD-A30 arrived with the latest 1.3 firmware upgrade installed. Playing HD-DVD's on my mitsubishi 57" dlp tv definately has that "wow" factor. As many others have said, it does a very good job of upconverting standard dvd's to near HD quality. I also have a HD-A2 that I have owned since december of 2006. It has performed perfectly so I did not hesitate to purchase the HD-A30 at the price they are now selling for with the 7 free HD-DVD's. I also like that fact if I call within 30 days I can get refund for the difference if it drops in price.

Digital camera Review: Great Player But Some Complaints
Summary: 4 Stars

Overall, this is a great player for a great price. Picture quality is stunning, the remote is well designed, and the device itself looks great. But, I do still have a few complaints about it. First, there is no HDMI cable included. Actually no cables are included other than the power cable. So to take full advantage of the features you need an HDMI cable and a Cat5 cable. There is no coaxial digital audio out. For digital audio you must either use HDMI or toslink (optical). Also, the startup and disc load times are unbearable. It takes about 30-45 seconds for the device to turn on. Standby does not improve anything - my PC wakes up from standby faster than that! Also, loading an HD DVD takes about 30 seconds. Notably though, loading a DVD only takes about 10 seconds, no idea why there is a difference.

Overall the player is great and I'm happy with my purchase. The HD A30 does still lack some polishing that I would expect from a "3rd generation" player, however.
