Digital camera reviews of Toshiba HD-A30 1080p HD DVD PlayerDigital camera Review: An excellent effort by Toshiba Summary: 5 Stars
I didn't buy this from Amazon, but since reviews of the player are scarce, I thought I'd share some thoughts.
A few short months ago I bought the Xbox add-on to try the HD-DVD waters, and have been nothing but impressed, so when my standard DVD player died (my 7th one in 8 years, I'm a very heavy DVD watcher), I decided to invest in a player that will (hopefully) last (I also purchased a 4 year warranty this time).
The player itself is beautiful, both in appearance and on screen (watching on 1080p Samsung LCD). Picture quality of HD-DVD is, as expected, superb, and DVD upscaling is the best I have ever seen (easily destroying my 1 year old Sony).
A very few negatives. Boot times are still a bit slow, it takes about 40 seconds before the HD-DVD logo appears on screen, with another 20 seconds to load the disc, it's around 60 seconds total from power on to actually start watching the disc. Discs also don't resume play, which is odd as it seems to be a feature. If you don't power off the unit and stop a disc, it will resume where you left off, but if you power off the player, it restarts from the beginning, very odd, but Toshiba could easily fix in a firmware update.
All in all I am very, very pleased, the unit feels sold, looks amazing on your shelf and features some of the best video quality I have ever seen. The few, "problems" don't really bother me, but I wanted to mention them as it could turn off some people. Thanks for reading!
Digital camera Review: At these prices, you can't go wrong. Summary: 4 Stars
PROS:
Upconverts regular DVD's to make them look a bit better. You WILL be able to tell a difference compared to a regular DVD player.
Library of 500+ HD movies available now. (If you already have a Netflix subscription, you have have available films shipped in this format at no extra charge.)
Outstanding picture and sound. With settings up to 1080p/24, you're good to go with any television out there.
CONS:
I'm not crazy about the remote control. I personally don't like the button layout.
The startup time is about 40 seconds. There is about a 1/2 second lag when you hit FF, rewind, chapter skip, etc......while a bit annoying at first, you'll get used to it. (Remember, this thing is moving a LOT of data around.)
For the quality of picture, you can't go wrong.
Digital camera Review: Awesome Summary: 5 Stars
True HD picture is the most awesome ever. Tray takes about 30 seconds to open and close. It seems strange to me that Toshiba cant manage to fix that, and it's vary annoying. Other then that great player and would highly recommend.
Digital camera Review: Awesome Picture quality compared to some Blu-Ray players and movies I seen! Summary: 5 Stars
I always watch Blue-Ray movies at my friends house on his 50inch samung 1080p t.v. I decided to get a HD player because the movies, HD player are cheaper then Blue-Ray movies and players. Of course at the time Toshiba was offering a promotion with 2 free HD DVDs with player, and $20 off 2 day air shipping so it cost like $5.00 to ship it. So since I was planning to get one anyway I took advantage of this promotion. I have watched it in 1080i and picture and sound are amazing. I never seen Matrix look so good.
I can not see any difference between his Blu-Ray on his 50inch 1080p or my HD in 1080i 42inch Samsung. It's going to be obvious who last in the market and with Toshiba and HD selling these DVDS and players at such a great price. All I can say is if you haven't picked a Toshiba HD player up. DO SO! You won't regret it.
My friend is in sales and sells a lot of high end equipment. He tells me a lot after the meetings they have every month with Sony, pioneer, etc. Don't let these manufactures fool you. There is not going to be a difference in 1080i or 1080p. There is NO STANDERED for contrast, screen resolution, picture quality, etc. It's all done by manufacture specifications and each manufacture is going to be different. I seen $7,000.00 Plasma t.v. made by pioneer that run in 720p and looked better then any 1080i or 1080p, t.v. out in the market. This is something manufactures would not tell you. Its up to the customer to do the studying.
Hope this helps
Digital camera Review: Awesome Picture. Really Impressive Summary: 5 Stars
Toshiba HD-A30 1080p HD DVD Player
I ordered this late Sunday afternoon, it was delivered before noon on Tuesday, and that was with the free "Super Saver" shipping.
The picture provided by this machine is absolutely beautiful on an LG 42" LCD (1080P).
Even regular DVD's have a noticeable improvement due to the up-conversion for standard DVD's.
I have been waiting for a while for HD players to break the $250 pricepoint, and I am glad I waited. I paid $240. The icing on the cake was the included HD DVDs of the movie 300, and Bourne Identity. The additional bonus of 3 HD-DVD's tipped the scales.
I had the chance to get in on a 5 HD-DVD bonus but waited too long. I should have gone ahead with it without my wifes approval, but I waited too long. Oh well, at least is is still peaceful around here.
The extra features on the HD is nice, but I'm not sure I can see a video quality difference between the HD-DVD's and the up converted standard DVDs. (Both are absolutely awesome)
