Digital camera reviews of Toshiba HD-A35 1080p HD DVD PlayerDigital camera Review: AWESOME!!!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I love this product, I wish they would have never lost the format war! This is a phenominal product, I would suggest to my grandmother but she's still into Betamax!
Digital camera Review: Almost perfect Summary: 4 Stars
I have personally owned almost every flavor of HD DVD player, starting with the HD-A1. This is by far the most balanced of the players and has the best audio section, (I.E. Transformers wow the transformations have so much detail its staggering, I cant believe what you here in there) I have heard small details with this unit (connected via-optical cable) that I have not heard with any of the others. The HD-A1 was better at up converting SD DVD's but had nothing on the audio section. The HD-XA2 was a better video up converter as well, had a better audio section that the 1 series but not as good as this unit. Now on to the HD DVD performance. This unit is by far the champ, it outperforms the rest of the pack; Batman Begins the details, the snow just breathtaking. I would give it 5 stars if it was as good as the HD-XA2 at SD video up conversion. I highly recommend this unit having owned all but the HD-XA1 which was only cosmetically different from the HD-A1, and the HD-a20.
Digital camera Review: Amazing stuff.....HD quality that will blow your mind, not your budget. Summary: 5 Stars
After having sat on the fence trying to decide on a blu-ray or HD-DVD player, I finally took the plunge.....and certainly believe i have made the right choice.....for me.
There will be those who are pro blu-ray and pro hd-dvd, but I entered into this impartially and with an open mind. I have no interest in a PC based burner or using the devide on a PC, so it came down to which standalone player would be the best choice.....the winner was HD-DVD.
From day one, the specification for HD-DVD has been set in concrete, and any changes MUST be backward compatible...not so with blu-ray of which recent changes have made gen 1 players unable to play content on newer discs. Technically, both offer the same - 1080p and super-high bitrate uncompressed digital audio. Studio support is at this point still better for blu-ray, but I think that will change.
As for the player itself, it is amazing! Very lightweight compared to previous models, as now most of the custom boards and buckets of IC's are now built into a handful of custom ICs that do the lot. The transport is smooth and fast, with most discs booting up into menu in around 30 seconds from the moment the tray is closed. Picture and sound are superb, and the remote layout is excellent - although a backlight on the remote would have been a welcome addition.
There are plenty of connections available to the user - including a HDMI 1.3, component, analog stereo and analog 5.1 ch outputs as well as s-video and composite and digtal audio outputs.
I am now hooked on HD video - very hard to go back to standard dvd - even when used in upscaling mode, the quality of standard definition is now so poor in comparison.
If you have been sitting on the fence - jump off and get one - you'll love it :)
Digital camera Review: An Awesome Player for High-Def Audio Summary: 5 Stars
The main advantage of this player is the ability to pass audio directly to the receiver. If you have a HDMI receiver capable of processing TrueHD or DTS-Master audio, then the A35 is right for you. I have my A35 hooked up to an ONKYO 605 receiver and the sound is phenomenal. If you don't have or plan to get an HDMI receiver, you're probably better off going with the A30 and saving a few bucks.
However, when you talk about value, I have to think back to a year ago when you could only get a 1080i player for $500. Now, for under $500, you can get this A35 with 1080p processing and HDMI 1.3 support. On top of that, the movies `300' and `The Bourne Identity" are in the box (a $60 value) and you get 5 more free movies by mail ($150 value). Plus: Universal, Paramount and DreamWorks support HD DVD exclusively, so some of the hottest hit will only be available in HD DVD.
Digital camera Review: An amazing piece of hardware Summary: 5 Stars
Yes it sucks that the hd dvd format died out. That still doesn't change the fact this is an amazing piece of hardware. What may make this hardware still worth buying to anyone is the fact that it is an amazing hd upconverting dvd player and on top of that a top of the line hd dvd player. Keep in mind people that if you want a hd upconverting dvd player that is any where near as good as this one it could easily cost you $120. Also keep in mind that this player goes for around $190 (if you shop around) so for an extra $70 give or take a little you can have a player that can play hd dvds also. Which also keep in mind there are around 800 titles worldwide released on the format. If any of you detail freeks too by the way are thinking there might be region code issuse with hd dvd disc think again, since the hd dvd format is region free. As for the regular dvd format keep in mind that it will be around for years to come. So if you tally up the amount of regular dvds and hd dvds to choose from to play on this player that is a lot, not to mention play both very well. So do yourself a favor and check out the hd a35 hd dvd player.
