Summary: 5 Stars

The Toshiba HD-A35 is the third generation of 1080p HD DVD players. And it is a triumph: solid, STUNNING image, STUNNING sound, STUNNING capabilities at a very affordable price.

GREAT THINGS ABOUT THIS PLAYER:
-Flawless performance.
-Great remote control that glows in the dark.
-Great image quality.
-Dolby TrueHD decoding.
-Web-enabled network capabilities.
-HDMI 1.3 interface.
-Deep color support.
-HDMI pass-through audio.
-Support for 24-frames video.
-Great upconversion of your standard DVD to near-HD quality.
-Persistent memory for storing downloaded media.
-Ease of use and connect.
-Still cheaper and more fully featured than any Blu-ray player.
-Full support of next generation advanced features (like commentary Pip).

NOT SO GREAT THINGS ABOUT THIS PLAYER
-It is not as fast to turn on as a regular DVD player (it takes a few more seconds to load).
-Not as affordable as the other HD DVD players available.

This is a great choice for the true film lover who is serious about HD home entertainment and will offer the best bang for your money.

About HD DVD:
HD DVD is the next generation format for home video. It puts together an unbeatable package of elements unparalleled anywhere:
-Perfect retro compatibility with all previous formats, meaning your DVDs will always be playable.
-The best strategic technological choices, meaning HD DVD takes full advantage of both audio and video next-generation of data compression making important concerns like disc space and bandwidth a thing of the past.
-No more region coding! Global distribution is here: be free to watch whatever you want. Be free to buy whatever you want, wherever it is available.
-Need something else the disc does not provide? Download it to your player. Additional subtitles or soundtracks, additional exclusive extras, offers and whatever!
-Advanced extras here and now! HD DVD brings you an unprecedented array of new extras on the titles you love.
-Finalized specs. No need to wait for future profiles. No need to worry that a movie will have any special feature not supported by your player (unlike what happens with other Blu-formats). ;-)
-Price: full retro-compatibility with DVD makes the HD DVD technology easier and faster to author, produce, replicate... therefore more affordable.

This player is an offer you cannot refuse.

Digital camera Review: Best HD DVD player for the money
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this to go with a 47" 1080p Westinghouse LCD and I was totally impressed with the image quality, for both HD DVD's and standard DVD's upconverted to 1080p. Too bad, everyone's bailing on the HD-DVD format and supporting Blu Ray...well, at least this unit can play regular DVD's and DVD-Audio.

Digital camera Review: Best Hi-Def player available
Summary: 5 Stars

Update 12/11/07 - I've had this player a little over a month now. I have to say that I'm very impressed. This has replaced my "old faithful" HD-A1, which didn't give me any problems, but felt like it took an hour to boot. :) This player is noticably faster and handles everything I throw at it.

At the lower price it's being sold at now, it's a steal.

Pros:

I have this player hooked up to a Denon AVR-3808ci and I love the bitstream audio.

The player is much faster than previous models and is also faster than my Samsung BD-P1200.

Upconversion is also very very good.

Cons:

Expensive for an HD DVD player. Almost as expensive as the cheapest blu-ray players.

Digital camera Review: Buy a HD DVD and put blu ray out of its misery!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was contemplating buying the HD-X2A, but after reading a bunch of reviews I went in for the HD-A35.
Picture and sound quality is simply amazing ..I don't regret buying this player.
Setup was simple, upgrading the firmware was no problem. It does take a little time to load but its not a big issue. Upconverted regular dvd's just fine. Warners will go exclusive after this holiday season.
Overall...Hd dvd will be the dominant format in 2008.
