This is a nice HD DVD player that outputs 1080P. I have watched both DVD and HD dvd with this player and the video quality is amazing. HD-DVD was consumer friendly with a relatively low price to get High Definition video. HD-DVD is going away, so there will not be new movies in HD-DVD format which is ashame, but you can still play regular DVD on this player and it will scale the DVD to 1080P. This player does not play BlueRay discs. The movie industry has picked BlueRay to be the standard HD disc format.Digital camera Review: Toshiba A35 :)

Fine equipment!
When will Blue Ray catch up? Next year maybe, doubtful; but for sure - more money for both equipment and media!
The A-35 used side by side with my son's Play Station 3 with Blue Ray matching Harry Potter media the A35 provides a superior picture and audio signal on our Sony (oops) 60" HD TV & through our 7.1 Onkyo/Klipsch audio system.
What else can be said other than "what a sad state of affairs!!!" Thanks a lot Warner Brothers. How about allowing the consumer to make the decision of which technology we want!

I purchased this player as an upgrade from my A1. I was plesantly surprised at the quality improvements over the A1. And the load times as spoiled me (I got an A1 at launch and kinda got used to the long load times of it). I SD upconversion is alson pretty nice. I wish I had an XA-2 to compare it to, but oh well. Yes it sucks that the hd dvd format died out. That still doesn't change the fact this is an amazing piece of hardware. What may make this hardware still worth buying to anyone is the fact that it is an amazing hd upconverting dvd player and on top of that a top of the line hd dvd player. Keep in mind people that if you want a hd upconverting dvd player that is any where near as good as this one it could easily cost you $120. Also keep in mind that this player goes for around $190 (if you shop around) so for an extra $70 give or take a little you can have a player that can play hd dvds also. Which also keep in mind there are around 800 titles worldwide released on the format. If any of you detail freeks too by the way are thinking there might be region code issuse with hd dvd disc think again, since the hd dvd format is region free. As for the regular dvd format keep in mind that it will be around for years to come. So if you tally up the amount of regular dvds and hd dvds to choose from to play on this player that is a lot, not to mention play both very well. So do yourself a favor and check out the hd a35 hd dvd player.Digital camera Review: Works Like A Charm

Unit came double boxed. Very happy with shipping process. Arrived on time. Manual very easy to navagate for hook up to ONYKO HDMI. Sound & picture as advertised. Would recommend this unit especially for upconvert DVD. Played 8 HD-DVD & several DVD and very happy with this unit.
