Digital camera reviews of Toshiba HD-XA2 1080p HD-DVD PlayerDigital camera Review: HD-DVD wins in my book Summary: 5 StarsIf you are planning on buying a HD-DVD player, spend the extra $$ and get this player. It's video output options are many and the video is spectacular.
After receiving mine, I downloaded the ISO image to update to 2.5 firmware version (a must have if you want to watch Transformers!). 20 minutes later, I was watching Transformers on HD-DVD, the best of any format I've seen in a while. Even the theater doesn't seem to have the affect it used to after watching this in HD.
The HD-XA2 player is fantastic. Menus are exactly what I wish regular DVD had. It's a hidden menu on the screen that you can access at ANY time (even during playback). The REON video decoders do wonders with both HD-DVD and SD DVD. Monsters in SD was awesome. Almost as good as HD over the air TV.
I highly recommend this product, even if it seems to be a bit out of your price range, you'll get exactly what you pay for!
Digital camera Review: THE BEST HD DVD PLAYER EVER Summary: 5 StarsThis is definately the best HD DVD Player on the market, amazing sound and incredible picture through HDMI, and very easy to update via the ethernet cable.
Standard DVD or HD DVD, this is your player, truely amazing.
Blows Blu Ray out of the water.
Digital camera Review: Marginal upgrade from HD-A1 player Summary: 4 StarsAfter reading all the reviews on this player I had higher expectations for upconversion of SD-DVD's. Don't get me wrong this player is very good it's just in a side by side comparison of my HD-A1 player viewing the same DVD I couldn't notice any discernable difference in the output when projected on a 110" screen with Sony SXRD projector. I was looking for some extra boost from the special chip they have for video processing but didn't see it. I also experienced the annoying freeze-up others complained about while watching a brand new "Knocked-Up" HD-DVD movie. It was the first movie I watched on the player. I subsequently upgraded to version 2.5 firmware and haven't seen anything since but have had only limited viewing time on the player. I'm a bit nervous given the other posts whether I will have future problems with these freeze-ups. The only time I've seen them on my HD-A1 is when I get a heavily scratched up disk from Netflix. I've also noticed the lip sync issues others have mentioned. Nothing too bothersome but it is more prevalent than on the HD-A1.
Boot-up time to play a disk is about 12 seconds faster than my HD-A1. I also haven't seen the annoying HDMI connection errors if my projector isn't turned on or connected via my a/v receiver like with the HD-A1. The fit and finish of the player is a lot nicer than HD-A1 but haven't decided whether to keep or not. With the 5 free DVD's and 2 free one's from Amazon my net cost of the player is only about $350 so it's probably worth keeping and relegating my older player to my family room TV.
In summary it's a marginal upgrade from the HD-A1. This isn't too say it's not worth it. Outside of the very annoying slow bootup time and responsiveness of the player (yes I'm spoiled with my PS3 blu-ray instantaneous startup and play) I continue to be impressed by the upconversion of SD-DVD's. Early on I did some comparisons with $2000 Denon players and this unit was as good or better at a fraction of the cost. One other note is that I continue to be impressed with Toshiba's technical support. I'm glad to see that some companies still invest in having competent tech support folks on the phone. I'm interested to see where the HD-A35 falls out.
Digital camera Review: Toshiba HD-XA2 Summary: 5 StarsGood: This is one of my best investment, the picture quality is amazing, the sound will blow you away... GREAT PRODUCT !!! highly recommended.
Bad: Takes too long to get it started.
Digital camera Review: It's worth the money! Summary: 4 StarsOut of the box it is a very nice machine, boot up time is about 30 seconds and the picture is great, upgrades will bring it to 1080p at 24 frames which is what the A3 series is (well 2/3 that is)and now that tripple layer hd dvd disks are here it brings them up to 51 gigs of storage space for movies, extras, what ever and as SONY does it's MY WAY OR NO WAY! I am glade I went the HD DVD way.
Load times as i said are in the thirty second range (when you first turn it on) which is on par with a dvd recorder with a hard drive installed
it.
Pictures aka movies will put a smile on your face and as if there was a thought about it not all movies are made to be hd nor will it add anything to the movie and I do not see them ever killing off dvd any time soon nor do I see them making a HD machine that will not play them and this machine does a super job of pushing the pixels so don't be BLUE about this disk or that disk not being in the RED case and if you look around since the HD DVD is region free just because it's not sold in the US does not put as not out there in RED.
So far it has played every thing I put in it (VIDEO) the paper work say's it won't play MP3'S but I have not tried that yet nor care but thats me I have 5 other dvd players in my system that say they do
If you can buy it get it (Recommended) if you want to wait to see if it's RED r BLUE don't be the one who puts off buying a camera to film the kids growing up only find they already did.
