Digital camera reviews of Transcend JetFlash V30 - 4 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive TS4GJFV30 (Black)Digital camera Review: Cheap cost, cheap materials, cheap quality. Summary: 1 Stars
When I first got the item I thought the materials used and overall feel were "cheap", but for around $10 I wasn't complaining. But then, less than a week after getting it, it stopped working. Two different PC's and my PS3 would not recognize anything on the drive. Windows would detect the USB device when connected but would not recognize anything in the device so I couldn't even try to a format. $10 should have bought me more than a 1 week worth of use.
Digital camera Review: Compatible with Windows 98SE Summary: 5 Stars
I chose this flash drive because I needed one that would work with Windows 98SE. I was preparing to purchase a new computer equipped with Windows Vista and needed a flash drive that could be used to transfer data and pictures from my 10 year old Gateway. If you are using an old computer with Windows 98SE, this is the flash drive for you. I was able to download the driver from the Transcend website without difficulty and the flash drive worked like a charm.
Digital camera Review: Does everything you need, but nothing more Summary: 4 Stars
The Transcend JetFlash V30 4GB flash drive is just your typical no-frills flash drive. Don't expect anything fancy, but do expect a good price.
PROS
[+] 4GB is adequate for normal use
[+] Beautiful color scheme (with blue LED)
[+] Economical price (just $9.99 when I ordered)
NEUTRAL
[*] Average data transfer speed for flash drives in this price range
[*] Slightly smaller in size than other flash drives
CONS
[-] Not as sturdy as other flash drives
[-] Cap is easily lost
The Transcend JetFlash V30 drive uses a cap system, rather than the retractable plug system from the SanDisk Cruzer. Unlike the Kingston DataTraveler, the cap does not conveniently fit on the other end of the Transcend JetFlash, so you will lose it quickly if you are not careful.
This flash drive has a plastic casing that appears to be thinner than other flash drives. The casing, especially the cap, looks rather fragile. The Transcend JetFlash V30 probably can't handle much pressure before its casing cracks.
Otherwise, the Transcend JetFlash does everything you expect it to quite well. It's great for daily use and performs at a reasonable speed. It's slightly smaller than most flash drives, but it has a hole that you can use with a lanyard to help prevent against losing the drive. I used this to install Windows XP on a netbook (ASUS Eee PC 900A) with no problems.
Compare the prices of the 4GB flash drives before you buy this. If the Transcend JetFlash is significantly cheaper than the others, it becomes a good choice. Otherwise, you may prefer the Kingston DataTraveler or the SanDisk Cruzer for better durability and convenience.
I bought this flash drive to replace the Kingston DataTraveler 4GB drive that I recently lost.
Digital camera Review: Everything I thought it would but with no place to put it on my keychain Summary: 4 Stars
I might not remember it quite right but I don't believe there was a hole to attach it to my key chain, which was the only negative.
