For the price, this case will satisfy your need to keep scratches off the Nano but I doubt it will protect against shock or falling damage that well.
The transparent case comes in two separate pieces (front and back). You place the Nano onto the back piece and snap the front on by pressing down. The front can fall off if you try and drop it. (in a way defeats the purpose of protection). It is difficult to pry apart but their is a little hole on the bottom left hand side of the case.
If you are using with a Auxiliary cord and a car charger, they both better be thin or it won't accomodate the front piece. I bought an eforcity car charger for the nano and using it will not allow me to snap on the front piece and it easily comes off.
When the case is on the ipod, I can squeeze ipod and hear some popping. Makes me wonder if this case will shatter if I took a spill with the ipod on me.
I know there's one similar to this case but comes in one piece and has a black plastic lining around it that I had before (stolen with my other ipod). That one was a better quality than this one and would stay attached to your ipod. If someone knows of it, please comment.

I have had my case on my nano chromatic since I have bought it. Overall, this case is alright, but the screen doesn't look that good when its on after a while, and my case just recently broke because the plastic strip had fallen off from the inside. This case does well with impact and i would suggest buying it from Amazon because the prices for this at Wal-Mart are way more expensive. I would also sggest the Otterbox Impact Series case for this iPod if you want a better case.Digital camera Review: Okay for price

You have to be careful with clear covers, I bought this because I wanted to protect to keep the original color and I wanted to protect the ipod itself. It did help every now and then when my ipod would fall, however, dirt and dust is usually accustomed to accumulate under the case. I just got this case today, I put it on, and I hate it. First of all it doesn't protect the screen which was the main reason I got it. Second, I cant plug my iTrip into my iPod anymore because the case is in the way. And finally I can't get the case off without breaking it. I practically had to fight with the vendor when the first shipment of the product had not been received. Finally received weeks later.
I ordered silicone, got hard plastic.
No instructions on how to open it, broke during the effort. Once opened, found my ipod didn't fit.
