I found the reason this unit didn't charge my Zen was the metal part of the 1.0 USB plug was too short.
It fit in but didn't go in far enough to make good contact to work. I tried cutting the solid black plastic around the plug back but that only worked for a while till all I had left was wires & the 1.0 metal plug.
Eventually the wires came loose and it was than useless.
