This isn't your wimpy power strip. This is a heavy duty, Mack truck tough, surge protector with serious specifications. For my HDTV setup I ruled out the use a computer UPS out of concern that the power might be, and probably would be, a square wave. Because of this I wanted an industrial strength surge protector. This one meets the test. I only wish it had eight outlets because I'm always adding new electronic gizmo's to my HDTV setup.Digital camera Review: Name Brand Surge Protector

Isobar was the best surge protector I could buy in 1989 with my IBM 8088 XT. I just like the name and figure you get what you pay for. I have had a few Wal*mart $8 surge protectors go out already. Cannot recommended Tripp-Lite enough. I had this Isobar Ultra filled with computer equipment. An electrician's company fed 220 volts into two house circuits. The equipment plugged into the Tripplites were fine. The electronics plugged into a cheaper strip all fried. $3,000 worth of damage. If I had spent the money on the TrippLite I would still have my 36" HDTV, DVD, and VCR.Tripp lite's side fuse was popped and would not reset. Internally it was fried, smelled like it melted and something rattled inside. Contacted TrippLite and, no questions asked, they sent me a replacement--no fees. I had the tripplite for at least five years. The LifeTime warranty is real, don't forget that. And this unit is all metal housing. Heavy, solid, with mounting screw holes on the back. THe cable is thick and solid. It will tell you if the plug is ungrounded. The plugs are isolated to eliminate EMI noise from propigating from one plug to the next.
My ultra has a modem/phone pass thru on one side. I don't see that mentioned here.

Needed to upgrade with a surge surpressor for my son's bedroom and this was exactly what I needed.
The cost was fair and the functionality complete. I have used Tripp Lite products over the past
20 years and have never been disappointed.
