Digital camera Review: Great performance but .....

Great performance but programming learning curve is a little long for novices like me, due to product manual complexity. I bought the ARC 246 software which has its own learning curve but is quite helpful in the long run. The stock antenna is good but the Austin Condor all-baud portable antenna from ScannerMaster is even better. In the final analysis, the 246T is certainly worth the investment of time to learn and the fair price from Amazon.Digital camera Review: Great scanner...a few negatives though, but not many.

This scanner was very easy to take out of the box, put the batteries in, input a frequency...and listen. It is a nice design and mostly user friendly. I am familiar with average scanning, this scanner also has the ability for trunked scanning, I am still learning but it should come easy with info from some good resources. I am a bit disappointed that the PC interface cable is a serial connector...because serial ports are no longer standard on most computers, but a USB cable is available for 30 bucks more. The scanner also came pre programmed with channels for some areas,but none of them applied to my location it will be a pain to delete them. A little bit hard to understand the instructions to get programed and the range is somewhat limited.

This is a nice scanner but being a novice it's way to sofisticated for me. I just wanted to listen to the local emergency services ....not Amarillo or Orange County. I should of settled for a cheapie model but that's not my nature. It's too complicated for me but that's my problem not uniden's. I agree with all positive reviews here -- great unit for the price.
However make sure you're area doesn't use APCO-25 (P-25), this item will be worthless to you. This scanner decodes all sorts of trunking systems, but not the ONE I needed. Go figure.
I gave it 2 stars since the description said nothing about this, it is effectively less-than-half useful to me -- but if I DIDN'T need APCO-25, this would be my first choice handheld scanner, great quality scanner.
***Amazon : PLEASE put in description "Not APCO-25 compliant"!
