Which is, don't use the keypad to program, buy the software! Once you get past that and setup your individual systems and play with the different features, it's great. I like being able to just touch one button and turn off a system I don't want to hear or vice versa. I like the backlight on squelch feature and reception with the provided rubber duck is pretty good. I upgraded the antenna, but only noticed a small improvement. Wish the speaker was a bit louder, but that is the only negative thing I can think of.Digital camera Review: Product is good, but I have a BIG problem.

The product is great, but let me tell you something. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS SUPPLIER. THIS PRODUCT IS NOT AVAILABLE NEW AND THEY DO NOT TELL YOU UNTIL AFTER THE ORDER HAS BEEN PLACED. I had ordered this product less than 5 days ago, I got an email from customer support stating that they DO NOT have this product NEW. I kept reading and they had sent me some other sanner AUTOMATICALLY. They picked out another scanner, SHIPPED THE ITEM, and sent me an emailing saying that the item has shipped, but wait, it was some other scanner! DO NOT ORDER THIS ITEM FROM APEX SUPPLIERS. THEY DO NOT HAVE IT NEW.
WHO DOES BUSINESS LIKE THIS? THE CUSTOMER ORDERS AN ITEM, THEY SEND YOU AN EMAIL SAYING IT IS NOT AVAILABLE ANYMORE, THEY SEND YOU SOME OTHER SCANNER, SHIP IT, AND THEN TELL YOU WHAT IS GOING ON.
DO NOT ORDER THIS ITEM FROM APEX SUPPLIERS.

I think if you are looking for a scanner this is the one to have. I had a little difficulty with the instructions for the programming but i figured it out. I give it 5 stars still but the instructions could be a little more user friendly. Alot of fun with this toy. I think they fail to mention it does come with rechargable batteries. For me, I wanted to be able to program some of my local frequencies and listen. It takes a bit more than this. If you have a chance, review the owners manual to different scanners before you buy. There are a number of .pdf files out there that will allow you to do this. I have never owned a scanner before and that knowledge may have led me to a a different model. Since I'm new to this arena, understanding the different concepts that go along with technology, can take some time. But in the long run is worth.
Having said that, programming this is not logical unless you understand the princeples and, should be easier for someone who is newer to this field.
It does come with multiple channels pre-programmed with popular channels from all over the U.S. This is annoying since most of them are useless. They take up more space then they are worth and since different systems share the same freqs, you'll have to edit the name anyway. WHy not just do it from scratch. Do the research to make sure this is the right scnner for you needs.
