Digital camera reviews of URC RFS200 PowerPak Bundle w/ MasterControl RF20 and PowerBlasterDigital camera Review: $300 saved! Summary: 5 Stars
I'm not too prone to submitting reviews, but I'm so thrilled with this product that I had to share. My problem stemmed from the fact that my A/V receiver was behind closed cabinet doors, and my new wall-mounted flat screen HDTV was connected to my receiver, which means the receiver controls my TV volume. I tried a "IR Booster" product that didn't work, and was staring down the barrel of spending close to $400 for a Logitech Harmony RF Remote Control. The Missus wasn't going to be amenable to that idea one bit. After seeing this product and reading the description and some customer reviews, I decided to give it a try. I'm glad I did. I had the remote and the PowerBlaster working and programmed in less than 30 minutes. And it's working exactly as I had hoped.
I found the product description a little confusing, so here's the basic gist of how this product works: the remote sends a RF signal to the PowerBlaster, which then converts the remote's RF signal into a IR signal that all my components use. In my case, I put the PowerBlaster behind my cabinet doors where it is well within IR range of all my components. The remote's RF signal travels through my cabinets to the PowerBlaster, which converts it to an IR signal, and therefore controls my components behind closed doors. Pretty slick. (My PowerBlaster is located so close to my components that I didn't even need to use the RF "eye" extensions, which extends the range of the PowerBlaster by attaching the eyes directly to the components themselves).
The remote itself was very easy to program and seems to have a lot more functionality than I need or plan on using. The instructions were clear and well-written. The package included a DVD that probably had some sort of demonstration or programming tool, but I never even used it.
All in all, I'm extremely glad to have found this product. I recommend it highly (and will be happy to answer any questions about the product that I may not have addressed).
Digital camera Review: **WARNING** The remote is only as smart as you are!!! Summary: 4 Stars
Wow! Minutes to get working and hours/days to master (the quest for the perfect macro!)
My only complaint is that this remote should have some sort of simple counter for implementing if/then statements for the macro's.
This is the best thing I've ever had in my life!
Digital camera Review: A Great Remote! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to replace my squadron of remotes (six devices)- and I wanted to be able to use it on my porch where I have everything backfed to. At first I thought programming was going to be a drag when this Korean made remote didn't have the code for my Korean made TV. But then I tried the learning process - it was very easy and fast. How easy? I spent two minutes flipping through the manual - I never fired up the dvd that walks you through the process (I guess). In fact, I didn't bother looking up any more codes, but went straight to teaching it all my remotes. It learns just about as fast as you can press the buttons. When you are done click save and you are up and running. I love the light which is a simple click on/off, giving a red background to all the buttons and menus - very easy on the eyes. The Macros are easy to program - you can add delays and assign various buttons to do multiple tasks depending on how long you press the button. Editing is just as easy. You can edit the text on the menu - I haven't bothered with that - yet - but I have no doubt it is just as simple. The wireless range is great - it works in every room of my house and even in the middle of my back yard. Oh and the wireless blast is ridiculously easy to set up. I just plugged it in to an outlet in my living room and placed it in a discreet place where a regular remote would work - thats it folks! I didn't bother with all the wires you can plug in to the back of the unit and stick to each device. I guess if you have all your AV components in a closet where light doesn't bounce very well you can use them. There is no interference if you sit right next to the wireless blaster and press the remote keys - and of course you don't have to worry about pointing the remote anymore. I understand this unit uses a wide open frequency - so if you are going to use more than one rf remote you need to think about that and what devices you use - or spring for the more expensive unit - this was not a problem for me. I highly recommend this remote!
Digital camera Review: A few problems but great overall!!! Summary: 5 Stars
First thing is that it has no ability to control RF devices(fans, lights, some electronics). The other is that the powerblaster is easily interfered with by other wireless devices. The status indicator will be stuck on but, as soon as I moved the device away it seems to work fine.
The feel of this remote is very high quality and the buttons feel nice. This remote is very well laid out, with exception of ff and rw. I wish it had more buttons to program(a record button maybe) but, I was able to move the extra needed functions to the lcd. The remote on it's own has a very long range as I can hit a projector behind me while it's facing forward. I have had problems with this with other controllers(the stock one, a logitech piece of junk, and a one-for-all). The logitech was easy to program but it only had about a 10-foot range, even pointing it directly at the projector normally doesn't work. The one-for-all(20-foot range) died and that is why I got this remote. Anyone with kids can appreciate the ability to hide all of your components where the kid cant even see them, glass doors tempt them. One problem with this is that your receiver needs to have an on-screen-display which mine doesn't(upgrade time). I am extremely pleased with this remote and would recommend it to friends and family(could make a good present).
Short of this remote dying I doubt I will buy another.
Digital camera Review: A great Solution for my outdoor stereo system Summary: 5 Stars
I use my remote to control my stereo system when I am listening to my outdoor speakers, It's absolutly fantastic. No expensive outside volume controls for me. I have multiple sources from multiple manufacturers and thanks to the cloning feature of the remote, I was able to clone the factory remotes exactly. I found that programming the remote was very easy. Once I started it took only a couple of hours to perfect the remote. But then again I do work for MIT. I have the power pack mounted on top of the equipment rack, even with the glass door closed it has no problem controlling all my equipment. I highly recommend this remote.
