Digital camera Review: *sounded* like a great idea, but ...

With midi-in, there seemed to be some delay (possibly addressable in your daw? but I didn't get that far). But, if I played a key too quickly -- or, worse, if I played an actual *chord* (imagine that), it just locked up completely -- the yellow traffic LED froze ON, and it passed no more midi traffic until I unplugged and plugged it back in. I did try more than one of them, just to see if I had a dud, and both had this behavior. Also tried plugging directly into the machine rather than usb hub, no change. Oh well. Sounded like a great idea -- simple, straightforward, cheap .. but I guess you get what you pay for. This was on Mac OSX 10.5.8, in this case with an older Roland PC-200 controller.
Addendum:
antonl in his review notes that the quality and workingness of the cable appear to depend on the manufacturer/vendor. For clarification, mine appeared to be "Sold by: Sound Around inc", and came in a rounded-top plastic enclosure, with a red & white backing cardboard, labeled merely "USB MIDI CABLE", and on the back had "MODEL NO:GCB1", "ASIN NO:B0017H4EBG". I've added photos of the product I received.
