I have a 52" Toshiba in that basement and I recently installed a new BD on the 50" LG TV upstairs that has wi-fi capability so could watch Netflix via the BD. I wanted to move my Roku box to the basement but was short one HDMI port. This device looked like just the thing.
Received the device earlier than ordered but it lacked any directions. Figured how hard could it be - hooked up cable box to one port and Roku to other. Using both the remote control and manual buttons I could never get the video to stay on the cable box - it would always switch to the Roku (which does not have an on/off switch - it's always powered up).
I read some reviews on Amazon and some people mentioned the documentation (didn't get any) and the 3' HDMI cable (didn't come with one). But they did say to hook up the Roku in port 3 as the switcher looks to Port 1 first and if nothing powered there will go to next port.
No matter which way I connected stuff I couldn't get it to work. In fact, it acted worse than the first time I tried it so I returned it to Amazon for a refund.
I'm not the swiftest guy in the world but just could not make this device work. Lots of people loved it but it just didn't work out for me.
Would have helped to have some documentation and a website/800 number for tech support to call but couldn't even tell who made the device by looking at packaging.

Reviews for this item were pretty good. All I want to do is feed my one HDMI Sony Wega tv with content from the cable box and content from my blu ray player.
Set up the switch easily. Can't mess it up. Turned on the cable box and all I got was flash, flash, flash. I checked all the HDMI cables individual directly fed into the tv and they all work.
Can only blame tbe switch. Bummer.
Adding to my original. I'm going to try a 5 volt power cord. Well, the correct power chord. I tried a random cord that fit the unit but with the wrong current and toasted the appliance.
I'm told the power will correct the flashing problem. Why I need it and most don't is a mystery to me. But there is a spot to use the power cord to eliminate the flashing that I am getting.
LATEST April 10---I've bought another exactly same product. It works fine. The first one was a dud and I threw it in the garbage

This bargain-priced 3 to 1 HDMI Switch works perfectly and adds HDMI ports to a HD TV. Didn't want an external power supply for auto-switching because that would likely confuse the system if more than one device were powered on. This item works as advertised. It is a very good value for the money.
It has a 5 vdc input, but need not be used as it powers off the USB.
It switches inputs automatically so the provided remote control is
not necessary for most applications.
Simply turn on the source and it will switch right to it.
It is indeed a SMART awitch.
If you have a need for such a device, get this one.
