Digital camera reviews of Underwater Housing Case for Canon Powershot SD1100, SD1000, SD890IS, SD850IS, SD790IS SD770IS, SD750, SD630, Digital CamerasDigital camera Review: Great for the money Summary: 4 Stars
This housing combined with the Canon SD1200IS takes surprisingly great photos underwater. We just got back from Hawai'i and have some amazing photos of sea turtles, angelfish, parrot fish, etc. while snorkeling. Like others have suggested, ensure that the camera lens is centered correctly in the window to take the best shots without interference from the housing. This housing didn't leak once while we were underwater so rest assured that your camera will be fine as well. We would definitely recommend this to others as a cheaper alternative to a waterproof camera.
Digital camera Review: Great product Summary: 5 Stars
Used this for an intense snorkeling trip - at least 3 -4 hours use daily for 9 days, free diving only so only about 10-15 feet max depth but repeated dives. Excellent performance. It is true, you do need to pay attention to camera position to be sure the lens is lined up, and take care when closing the bag, as well as be careful not to open and close while at the shore. We used small silica dessicant gel packs inside at all times, and there was never condensation (yes, you do need to be sure the gel pack is not in fornt of the lens). Far superior option to the very complex high priced housings others sell, as well as the risky ("this device is not waterproof") water resistant cameras. And pictures and videos far, far superior to the cheap disposables.
Digital camera Review: Great product! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great product and for $25 you really can't go wrong. We brought it to Mexico, put my camera in it and brought it underwater in the ocean, the cenotes, the pool. Worked perfectly everywhere. It was so fun to be in the ocean at the beach with a camera! You do want to test the product (I put paper towels in it and then submerged the case for an hour or so) before you actually use it with your camera but mine worked great. Photos were perfect. You do have to make sure you have the camera lined up correctly in the case or you will get a black rim around your photos but like others said, just put paper towels/tissues in there with the camera to hold it in place. Even the tour guides in Mexico were amazed this product was only $25. They said they have seen more expensive ones with lens that were cheap plastic and easily scratched.
Digital camera Review: Great protection, poor ergonomics Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this case for my honeymoon because I knew we'd be doing lots of wet adventuring. We already had a decent point-and-shoot digital from Canon, so this seemed like a better option than buying a cheap disposable underwater camera or an expensive underwater digital camera. The good news: this case works. We took this thing in the pool, snorkeling, kayaking, water skiing, ATV riding, cliff diving, waterfall climbing, and through huge downpours. Not a single drop of water or grain of sand made its way inside the case, even after a 20 ft cliff dive into a choppy ocean with the camera in my pocket. It's essentially a thick zip-lock bag which then velcros over itself a few times, and it works! Now for the bad news: taking pictures while your camera is in the case is incredibly frustrating. In an attempt for "one size fits all", what you wind up getting is "one size fits none well." We could have fit two of our camera bodies in here with room to spare. Our picture-taking process: 1. Flip the case so the lens is facing you, and line up the lens *in the middle* of the black plastic lens ring. If you don't get it centered, the edges of the lens ring wind up cutting off portions of your picture. 2. Use one hand to grip the base of the lens ring where it meets the clear plastic, and apply pressure so it sits flush against your camera body. If you don't get it flush, your camera lens will be far enough away from the plastic cap that you're image quality will suffer (like taking a picture through a bus window). 3. Fumble for the shutter button through the top seam of the case, while still holding firmly agains the base of the lens ring and making sure the lens isn't cut off. 4. Take your picture and then immediately review it to make sure you didn't mess up one of the steps.
Now imagine doing all of that in a choppy ocean, or on a boat, or while snorkeling under water. I'd say we had about a 70% success rate, but in most of the situations we were able to review immediately, spot the issue, and take the picture again. In conclusion, we got some fantastic pictures that otherwise would not have been possible, but we spent more time fiddling with the too-big case than we did actually taking the picture.
Digital camera Review: Heed the warnings... Summary: 4 Stars
This pouch is great considering the cost.
Pros:
------
-Lets you take great underwater pictures (see my shark cage picture I uploaded).
-Cheap
-Portable
-Expendable
Cons:
-----
-Heed the first reviewer's advice: you really need some tissue or something in the case to keep the camera stable.
-If you don't get the lense centered, you will see a black ring. Not the end of the world because you can smoosh the camera around until it's centered, but kind of annoying.
-Flash is useless in this case. The flash reflects off the plastic and gives your photos a weird glow.
Like I said, great considering the cost. Make sure you make a good seal before you put it in water, though.
