We've had several scanners over the years...this one was inexpensive, easy to program and use, and love the weather channel and battery back up. We live in an area prone to storms and tornadoes so when the power goes out, we can still hear what the emergency folks are saying. I got this for my husband for his Christmas present and he really likes it. This is his first scanner and the codes are really easy to put in. In our area we can't put in our police codes since they are hidden but we can hear everything else like fire and EMS. I have only one question for people who have alredy bought this scanner... Is it digital or analog? If its analog I don't want it because I will only be able to use it for about a year or year and a half. But if its digital, well, then thats a very good price for one. Granted I'm a newbie to the whole scanner thing, but found this item impossible to program. Instructions definitely far from adequate and no where to go for help. Not worth the trouble! Bought it for my dad for Christmas and because I'd had it more than 30 days only got refunded for 80%. If in doubt, I'd stay away from this one.
