I just purchased this scanner before i thought about looking into see if it did all that as well i havent seen it stated. if i know the frequency can i put it in and pick it up? Also is can this be used as a base scanner as well? I wish i would have gotten these answers before i bought it but it was the cheapest i found so i jumped on it before thinking. The BCT8 is an easy to use, feature rich, and affordable scanner. It does exactly as promised. It gets great reception, even in my basement that's 5-6 feet below grade. I use it primarily for Fire/Rescue, although I do occasionally listen in to the police chatter in my area on the 800mhz. Programing was simple enough, about what I expected it to be. All in all, I have no complaints. I would definitely recommend it for the application in which I use it (as a desktop scanner). I can't comment on using it as a mobile application. My wife ordered this scanner for father's day, and she got it three days after she ordered it from Amazon. I plugged it in, switched it on, and got it going right away. FOR THE PRICE of this scanner, I am very pleased with it. Great sound, bright LED display, simple control panel. The only drawback for me is that the manual is not very helpful, but this is more of a problem with the user (namely, me) than it is Uniden. I also found the software setup more difficult that I expected - don't expect it to be like adding a "plug and play" component to your computer, like a printer, for example. If you are new to scanner's, I have to recommend this as an affordable, high quality unit, but you'll need to Google information about how to set it up in order to maximize its capabilities, and I found YouTube had some great informative videos on the BCT8. There is also a magazine subscription included in the box which I may subscribe to in order to help me get the most out of my new scanner.Digital camera Review: First scanner

This is my first scanner. The BCT8 does everything I need it to do. It's easy to program and it comes pre-programmed with every state's highway patrol frequencies. It's a great first scanner. The only thing is it can't program in channel names, but for the price, that doesn't bother me.
