Digital camera reviews of Uniden Bearcat BCT8 BearTracker Warning System with 800 MHz TrunkTracker III

Digital camera Review: Great scanner, easy to program, upgradable
Summary: 5 Stars

I have two of these scanners - one for each car. For the money, it's a great buy. In hindsight, however, I'd have preferred to pay more for a scanner that has alpha-tagging, where you can assign a "name" to a frequency or talk group so that you can see, at a glance, who you're listening to.

In my original review, I gave the scanner three stars because of what I thought was an operation flaw. I live within a few miles of three independent, trunked systems, and I often travel through two other trunked systems, so all five banks of my scanner are trunking banks. The major problem I had with the BCT8 is that I couldn't find a quick way to turn trunking banks on and off while driving. If you use the keypad, you end up turning scan lists on and off instead. So you have to wait until you get to a traffic light, change one of the trunking banks to conventional scanning, then watch for when the scanner is scanning in that bank and quickly turn the other trunking banks on or off as needed. Then you switch the conventional bank back to trunking. Trying to enable/disable trunking banks while driving was no less dangerous than texting.

Fortunately, someone in a radio-related message forum gave me a piece of advice that Uniden failed to mention in their manual -- by pressing the DATA button, the scanner will switch from showing scan lists to showing banks. That fixed the problem, so I changed my review for this scanner from three stars to five.

Digital camera Review: If you are looking for an all-purpose Scanner this is the one to buy
Summary: 5 Stars

Having logged over two million miles as an over-the-road truck driver and a radio junky I love all kinds of radios... I got out of listening to scanners when they went to trunking calls... Listening to one side of a radio call gets real old real fast.. The cost of radios that would track trunking radios was expensive and limited... While recovering from getting hit by a truck traveling 70mph while making a left hand turn on my Harley. I turned my love of raidos to keep entertained during the many hours of recovery... Short wave is great... My longing for a scanner that will track trunking was a must... After reading many reviews and doing research I knew that one scanner needed to cover all bases was the Uniden BCT8 fit what I wanted... I find the Bear Tracking feature is great I had know idea that it would work so great... It works much better than radar dectors by the time they alert you it is too late... Where the Bear Tracker works great... I think it will be on a lot of future scanners... I only own one scanner with it's Trunking Tracker III it is the only one I need... I live right under the flight path of the flight for life helicopters I can scan for them as well as Police and Fire calls... The Ambulance services control towers and much more... The instruction manual leaves a little to be desired but if you have any experience in radio's it isn't a problem... While it takes a little effort to figure out listening groups it is not rocket science... If you are like me and want only one scanner this is it... I put together a battery pack for it in case of power outages it comes with everything you need for using it in your car... I think it is the most bang for the buck in scanners... Buy it... My son also thinks it is extra cool because it has a NASCAR logo on the front...

Digital camera Review: Nice Multi Use Scanner
Summary: 5 Stars

My area is still using analog, so this inexpensive scanner fit my needs. The Trunk Tracking feature ensures that I miss less of the transmissions. The user manual leaves much to be desired, so radioreference.com helped me program (and also provided my local frequencies) the BCT8 in under ten minutes. The BCT8 is solidly built and the audio is excellent. Besides the Public Safety frequencies, I can also listen to VHF Marine and Aviation, along with SW,CB,RR and NOAA Weather. Although it can be vehicle mounted, and comes complete with all mounting hardware, I use mine as a desktop. This is my third scanner and I'm impressed with the BCT8 all the way around.

Digital camera Review: Police scanner
Summary: 5 Stars

I ordered this scanner for my husband and he loves it. We were able to find the codes online for our police, fire, and ambulance here in our town as well as the sheriff's department in our county. By listening to this we are aware of where accidents or fires have happened so we can avoid those areas.
