Digital camera reviews of Uniden CEZA1998 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone with Corded Base, Speaker Phone and Digital Answering SystemDigital camera Review: A True Gift Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this phone for my elderly mother who is both vision- and hearing-impaired. She also suffers from arthritis and neuropathy, and the big buttons (particularly on the base) are a tremendous selling point. The ringer on the base unit, when turned to maximum, is quite loud and easily heard, and the flashing ring indicator is a wonderful backup cue. On both the base and the remote handset, the volume and tone quality are exceptional; she can use both phones without any additional amplification required. The only real glitch we've run into isn't a design flaw, but rather something I haven't researched enough to change. The CEZAI998 has a "red cross" button on both the base and handset, and the default setting is to dial 911. As I understand it, the number can be changed through the menus, I simply haven't done so yet. I only mention this because, to a visually-impaired person, a big red cross isn't exactly enough to thwart you from pushing the button. Mom had emergency crews show up the day after I bought her the new phone because she inadvertently hit the button. We can laugh about it now, but it scared the spit out of her when it happened. I realize that this is a safety/security feature actually designed into the phone. Uniden may want to put a physical indicator on or around the button (a raised "bump" on the button, or perhaps slightly depress it into the body of the phone; something to give a tactile cue that this button is somehow different than the rest.) Overall, this phone is a sure hit, particularly if you or a loved one has seeing or hearing problems. It is, without a doubt, one of my better gift selections.
