Since there are a bunch of perverts lurking out there, this was bought for my daughter for her safety. I love the style and its portability. It takes three triple A batteries which sometimes last an hour or two depending on the brand of batteries. If you don't have the recharging type, then you will spend more than the price you bought these talkies. I tested on the 12 mile it claimed and failed. These talkies are for use half a mile away. The radio works very well, but the reception it is something disappointing; principally we use them in parties ours where children go and are in contact between my wife and me (1 to 1.5 milles, up to 2 miles in many of the times). The life of the batteries is very short, in average they last one day if they are not used very much, but if they are used more, the batteries only last one day or less (you will always need to take extra batteries), from what it is advisable to use rechargeable batteries. The personal thing what more bothers me is that the button to block all other buttons, blocks everything up to the "call" button, from what it is that in many cases it is necessary to deactivate the buttons block to be able to pres the "call" button, if it is left the keypad without block it is very easy to change the channel, modify the volume or tunr off the radio without you realize.
Finally, if he looks for something more serious, it is better to buy radioes more professional than this.

We purchased these nice portable walkie talkies after I had surgery, as an easy way of communication with my husband when he is in another room. The distance range is very good, and they have very good clarity. However, after having them turned on for about 5 hours the first evening we used them, the batteries went dead. We needed to purchase re-chargeable batteries which lasted for about 3-4 days. We would suggest that the manufacturer consider producing rechargeable port stations, in which to place both walkie talkies, so that the battery life is longer when in use.Digital camera Review: 2ways

I've been a longtime Ham Radio, shortwave, and scanner enthusiast, and have owned many many handheld transceivers throughout the years, including 5 pairs of GMRS/FRS radios. I've owned this set now for a few months, and they work better than more expensive sets I own. The radios are VERY intuitive and easy to use, and have excellent receiver sensitivity and Xmit range. Ergonomically, they feel very good in your hand, and have decent battery life. A steal at the current price!
