These drain the batteries (4xAAA) even when turned off, and the belt clip makes the batteries inconvenient to remove. For this reason, I don't recommend this model.

UNIDEN GMR-638/2, 6 MILE 22 CHANNEL GMRS 2 PACKStay connected with your buddies while on the trail, at the baseball game, or anywhere else within a 6-mile range with this pair of GMR638-2 two-way radios. Also ideal as neighborhood watch tools and kid-sitting aids, each state-of-the-art radio features 22 channels (15 GMRS, 7 FRS) and 38 privacy codes, along with a voice-operated transmitter that enables hands-free communication when used with an optional HS 2467 headset and microphone. The large number of channels and privacy codes give users several communication options, ensuring that they can almost always talk with friends or family via an exclusive, uninterrupted signal. The channels are easy to find thanks to the channel scan feature, which browses for active channels while you watch, and the channel monitor function, which listens for weak signals on a given channel. To transmit on a GMRS or FRS channel, a user merely presses the PTT button while the scan is paused.
Additional features include a backlit LCD display, keypad lock, and a choice of five different call tones. The selectable tones are ideal for groups with several radios, as it lets users differentiate between calls. The radios include a pair of belt clips for efficient transport and run on either four AAA batteries or a single NiMH battery pack (not included). Each radio also comes with a battery-level meter on its display to indicate the power level.
