Digital camera Review: Easy and Efficient
Summary: 5 Stars

We had 5 remotes cluttering up our living room and still had to get up to press buttons on the television so we could watch a DVD. After extensively reviewing the options of remotes, I had decided that this seemed to be a good fit for my budget and household. I really liked that the remote has a self-illuminating feature because I tend to watch television in a darkened room.

I bought the remote for my husband for Valentine's Day. The Universal Remote streamlined everything into one remote. It was very easy for me to program and have all set up before giving it to him as a gift. It now controls our television, Tivo, DVD player, VCR, cable box, and receiver.

My husband loves it. I do, too. Now, I just need to figure out how to get it to turn the room lights on and off.... :-)

Digital camera Review: Exactly what I needed; even works with MythTV!
Summary: 5 Stars

This is quite a nice piece of equipment. Code setup was great, although my Samsung DLP HL-S6187W didn't like the 'stock' codes, so I had to learn some of the functions manually -- no problem with this remote. The only drawback I saw was that you cannot put functions on the first page, ie, if the Source function is on page 2 of the touchscreen, you have to use the touchscreen and go to page 2, you cannot move it to page 1 where its seen immediately. I might be wrong, there are many ways to customize the remote and I just haven't dug deep enough since I'm happy with it as is. Macro code is cool as are favorites setup.

Another cool thing I learned after I bought the remote was the ability to make it work with my MythTV setup. I actually just started to build it a few weeks after getting the remote. I installed the LIRC module and configured it, made an IR receiver with parts from RadShack for like 5-10 bucks, and used the setup codes for ReplayTV under the DVR codes section in the manual (it was one of the DVRs in the manual with only one code for it). I downloaded and installed the correct LIRC codes for ReplayTV, and got it to work perfectly with the remote. I then mapped the appropriate keys for MythTV (after testing what did what with IRW) and viola! Well, not quite that easy, took a quite a few hours of messing around to get it all to work correctly. I use Gentoo Linux...definitely not for the faint of heart...

I at first shied away from this remote because I like to hack and thought having something to hook up to a PC and mess with and update would be fun, but after reading Harmony reviews, I found that not to be the case; it was more of a pain to have to set things up that way. Too true. You can set things up exactly the way you want without ever leaving the couch. Very cool. And the DVD help video is nice; it helped me get up and running in no time instead of fumbling through the book and make the remote work, trial and error so to speak.

Digital camera Review: Excellent Product
Summary: 4 Stars

I have several of these and use them for many different activities. I use these with a couple of extenders. They are very reliable, have good range. I often use one on my downstairs deck in the back that controls my receiver and computer (where I store my music) located in the front of the house upstairs. This unit is relatively easy to use and very easy to program. The ONLY drawback, when compared to my SONY remote, is that the SONY is capable of learning some commands that the Universal cannot. I am hopeful that this will be corrected in the future. Fortunately, when I come across a command it won't learn, I simply use the SONY to learn the command first and then learn the command from the SONY. I prefer the universal over the SONY because it is smaller and easier to understand.
One very nice feature is the on-demand background lighting. The backlight can be turned on and off with the press on a large button conveniently located on the side of the unit.

Digital camera Review: Excellent Remote
Summary: 5 Stars

I was very skeptical about getting this remote due to the fact that I was unsure if It would control my Dish 622-VIP receiver. To my delight it controls this device flawlessly. I also use it to control my Pio Plasma, Philips DVD player, and H/K receiver. After setting up a few macros, I am in remote control heaven. This remote is super easy to set up, even easier to use. My wife loves it, the button layout is superb and I just cant say enough about this remote. Do not hesitate to buy!
