Digital camera reviews of Universal Remote URC300 15 Device Universal Remote Control (Silver & Black)Digital camera Review: Just what i needed Summary: 5 Stars
I use a Media center computer with an extender/DVR/DVD player, cable box, tv and sound system in another room. The sound system came with a universal remote that will not work on my extender/DVR. The Cable box has a remote that is a universal but it will only control the TV and Cable boc. The ability to learn and program macros make the the best remote I have. I programed tv and sound system on/off with a macro. It learned all the buttons for the extender/DVR/DVD player with the ability to control the sound system and needed functions for the TV and Cable box without switching back and forth!
Digital camera Review: LOVE IT !! Summary: 5 Stars
Once you get past the set-up and learn to navigate the touch screen...you realise that you don't know how you ever lived without it. Don't have the clutter of several remotes strewn about anymore. Will need the original remotes, occasionally, for some functions.......but this universal pretty much covers it all.
Digital camera Review: Manual Needs More Info Summary: 4 Stars
Remote works very well and does everything promised however, there is a function called light and when pressed it lists numgers 1 - 2 - 3 etc.
Nowhere in the manual does it say what this is for. I assumed it would be used to programed room lighting but the manual does not even acknowledge this function.
Digital camera Review: Misleading Capabilities Summary: 3 Stars
My Dish HDTV receiver operates with an RF remote. I bought the URC300 remote because it claims RF ability. This is misleading. It sends RF to an optional expander ($50.00) which then sends IR signals to your components. If you have an RF component like I do, this remote will not control it.
It also claims 15 component capability. It will control 15 DIFFERENT components, but if you have a DVD recorder and a DVD player; you have to choose which one to program, this remote will not operate two different DVD models.
Long story = short. I still needed two remotes besides this one to operate my system.
I returned the URC300 for a Harmony model. I'll still need a remote just to turn on the Dish HDTV receiver, but the Harmony will run every other component flawslessly. Which is more than I could say about URC300.
Digital camera Review: Misleading Reviews Summary: 5 Stars
The review titled "Misleading Capabilities" is dead wrong. All Dish Network receivers that use RF remotes also operate on Infrared. Thousands and thousands of people successfully use URC/Home Theater Master remotes via their infrared signals. This person did not take the time to read his manual to discover that he has to use his Dish receiver to teach his URC remote, because the Dish UHF remote does not output Dish receiver codes in infrared, only UHF. However, the receiver has a built-in function for exactly the purpose of teaching universal remotes the proper infrared codes.
People should do their research before putting misleading information in reviews.
