Digital camera reviews of V-MODA Bass Freq In-Ear Stereo Headphone (Bling Bling Black)

Digital camera Review: 3 month owner
Summary: 3 Stars

You get what you pay for. i feel the V-moda is well priced. I have Shure E2s, and various headphones. The V-Moda Bass Freq earphones are not crisp as my best headphones, but I can recommend them for rock and country over the I-pod whites. I have walked/hiked about 60 miles wearing the V-Moda Bass Freq earphones, and while I can not get the right ear to seal using any of the silicone fittings, they don't fall out like the I-pod buds. I can get the booming bass when sitting still. These will let you zone out on the bus or subway, the wife has started clonking me upside the head when i zone her out with these. That works. I have adjusted the nano to easy off the bass. That works. Other issues: the wiring became noticable less flexible after two months, I guess the plastic is harding on the wires. If anything, it lessens tangling. I can not find any cracking of the plastic, yet. Shure E2 earbuds were almost 3x the price to get a "warmer sound" and balanced bass. Wife uses E2s with custom ear molds, and that is the best way to seal in the sound.

you really like bass, muffled mids, irritating highs. I was looking for a cheap alternative to the horrible standard iPod headphones, since they have no bass at all. I work retail and these were the cheapest on employee purchase ($10) so I decided to pick them up. First thing you notice when you put them on is "wow, that's a lot of bass for something so cheap." Then, after a couple songs, you start to notice how muffled the mids are. I would describe the vocals like this: say your underwater (in a pool) barely below the surface of the water, and someone is singing a couple feet from the water. That's the best way I can describe it. With that said, I rarely listen to music with vocals.

The highs on high volumes can get irritating, if you can even hear them. Even the highs sound like they have some bass in them. I tried listening to rock/metal/alternative and it was just annoying. You can't distinguish any of the mids from the highs.

The bass is obviously overpowered, which is expected hence the name of them. I'm O.K. with overpowered bass only if they don't mess with the mids. But they do.

Build quality is what you would expect. The buds feel like they can take a couple drops. The cable feels a little flimsy.

I haven't been able to use the cable management thing as of yet, don't really see why you would waste time winding that thing up when you can just wrap it around your mp3 player.

So that's the bad. But the good is that they are a pretty cheap alternative for iPod headphones, if you listen to bass heavy music and don't really care for any of the other frequencies, these are for you. I can't really complain for $10 bucks. There are probably better earbuds in the same price range, just haven't tried most of them out.

Definitely NOT the "best earbuds" at this price range. Probably the most bass you will be able to get at this price range.

Digital camera Review: 4.5 stars (if you want something that sounds and feels better...get these)

These earbuds sound great. After test running these first immediately out of the box and then again at work last night, I'll say that I am very pleased with these V-Moda earbuds. I realized that Ipods are actually capable of producing decent sound and after cycling through my favorite Everything but the Girl and A Tribe Called Quest albums I realized how comfortable and powerful these buds were.

Recently, I purchased some el-cheapo JVC in-earbuds that almost turned me off to in-earbuds. They felt terrible in my ear, were prone to slippage and the in-ear inserts were actually hard. This on top of the fact that they did not sound any better than stock earbuds (which these V-Modas blow out of the water) I thought that I would give this design one more chance and I'm glad I did. These buds feel great and unlike those JVCs, they disappear (feeling wise) like the stock Ipod earbuds do.

And they handle low end bass exceptionally well. I hear no more distortion in my bass heavy or hip-hop songs and they sound as good as they do on high end car system speakers in my ear. They are also designed well. They come with this cool little plastic thing to manage the cord which makes them very portable, complimenting something like an Ipod shuffle or Nano.

I have one qualm. The cord seems flimsy to me. I get the feeling that these may not be the most durable earbuds out there. They may sound great, but that cord makes me wonder if they will be the same earbuds in six months. I'll have to wait and see on that one but as for now....I'm satisfied with these.

Digital camera Review: 4.5/5 in my book
Summary: 5 Stars

these are some pretty solid buds. i would say 4.5 because i still feel that overall the Zune premium v2 buds are the best i've used as far as under $50. the bass is as advertised once you find the right fittings for your ears (comes with 3 sizes). the cable rapper is pretty handy. they don't really look like they will break any records as far as longevity but i think that is pretty much how ear buds are as i never have a pair last more than a year since they have a tendency to get yanked out of my ears repeatedly over time which weakens the connections. they may be a little bassy for some and this kind of reduces the quality of the highs and mids which sound kind of "airy". i'm mad i lost them after only 2 days (and trust me, i've been searching for them for a week now) but the fact that i just ordered another pair should be a testament to my satisfaction.

so basically, audiophiles on a budget should go with the Zune premium v2s but if you don't mind sacrificing a little sound quality in the highs and mids for some quality bass, the Bass Freqs are the set for you.

Digital camera Review: 5 starts! but now I have to minus 1 star.

An updated review. Mine "broke" today from normal usage. Basically soemthing is going on inside the wire that is closest to the jack. Possibly a kink due to it not being able to "bend nicely" out from the jack. But overall, this is a great headphone. Deep and clear sound. I think I'll order a few more for the future before they don't make this anymore.
