Digital camera reviews of Valentine One Radar Detector

Digital camera Review: Just Got a Speeding Ticket from CHP
Summary: 1 Stars

I've heard so much hype about this Valentine One Radar Detector about how good it is and how it can detect the radar signals from miles away but from my personal experience in the real life ---- "It doesn't work" I just got a ticket for going 80+ MPH by the CHP (California Highway Patrol). My V1 which I bought for $400.00 direct from V1 website was not even chirping... nothing... no signals... no WARNINGS... then CHP pulls up fast behind me with the lights going and pulls me over and tells me that I got clocked with his Radar detector for going 85 MPH. What was my V1 doing during all this time when CHP was clocking me? From my personal experience, V1 gives a wonderful show with lighted arrows and chirping sounds when passing by the shopping mall or grocery store with automatic doors but when it comes to detecting actual radar detector that CHP uses.... Na Da - Zip - Nothing At All!

Don't waste your money and don't waste your time...

Digital camera Review: Obsolete, Undependable Company
Summary: 1 Stars

First of all, people claim that they have purchased faulty units and the company doesn't want to know them. That alone was enough to keep me from purchasing. Secondly, the unit is obsolete because it doesn't offer GPS. Camera red light and speed enforcement is taking over because municipalities don't have to purchase them. The companies trade free equipment and installation for a percentage of the ticket proceeds which is estimated to be in the billions per year. There are no court expenses for the municipality because there is a video of the violation. If this detector doesn't offer a warning for these cameras it is useless. Thirdly, it is so ridiculously expensive to purchase and maintain. $85 per year plus shipping both ways for upgrades. For under two hundred dollars you can purchase the new for 2010 Cobra XRS 9550G that covers every possible alert with 360 degree read and includes GPS with a lifetime subscription to Aura database included. It is updated every 12 hours and is a quick and free download so the unit will never be obsolete. Maybe Valentine used to be the best but now it is extremely outdated and overpriced. Welcome to 2010. I had a chat on the Beltronics website where I asked for a tech to answer questions, all I got was a salesperson throwing pitches and not answering questions. Websites claiming that these overpriced units are the best must be receiving a nice kickback! Beware and listen to dissatisfied customers before you become one.

Buy Direct From Valentine One For $399.99

Digital camera Review: A Waste of time and money
Summary: 1 Stars

First of all, if you do get sucked in to buying a Valentine One do not buy it from Amazon. Sorry buy why would you pay more than 500 dollars here and 399 from Valentine direct. I can't imagine how this seller even gets away with that. Most importantly do not buy this if you live, work or drive through a city of more than 2000 people. My detector went off every 30 seconds no matter where I drove in Southern California through Nevada and Arizona. I called and asked them about it and they said "Well what do you want, it's sensitive"!! They use the analogy of a fighter pilot on their website, well I doubt a fighter pilot's radar is buzzing at them every 15 - 30 seconds. I would use the analogy of a fault alarm system. After an alarm going off every few minutes with false alarms how much attention are you going to pay to it? I'll tell you, you will turn it off. This is not my first radar detector. In fact over the years this is probably not even my tenth radar detector but it is by far the worst I have ever used. Oh, and the arrows only actually pointed toward the threat about 50% of the time.

Digital camera Review: Tried to like it, but arrows seem gimmicky...
Summary: 3 Stars

Bought the Passport 9500ix and had buyer's remorse because of all the great reviews on the V1. Tried them both out and it appears that V1 has to have a major fanboy club. Sensitive? Oh yeah, but who cares when the false positives are so outrageously abundant that you want to throw the thing out the window? Real life test was when I came upon an accident and the arrows kept switching and pointing and the whole detector became a red mess. Problem was, all of the emergency vehicles were stationary and there was only one cop. And it was doubtless picking up the usual chirps from automatic door openers on nearby businesses.

No doubt, in its day, the sensitivity of this thing outweighed the awful falses. But with the GPS technology in the 9500ix that virtually eliminates the false alarms while giving up nothing (or being better) in sensitivity tests, what's the point of the V1? Verdict: V1 is going back and I'm hard wiring the 9500ix.
