Digital camera reviews of Valentine One Radar Detector

Digital camera Review: One of a kind!
Summary: 4 Stars

I have owned Escort radar detectors in the past, and this one is significantly better and more useful. The fact that it detects so many types of radar, and from multiple directions, I feel much better protected. In a recent road trip, this detector gave me much more confidence than my old Escort that will be shipped off to my brother!

Digital camera Review: Passport Radar Detector
Summary: 5 Stars

Hello,
...I am not sure how long I have had my Escourt/passport Radar Detector But I love it, it has paid for itself over and over and over. I would say it is around 10 years old. I have used it and it has never gave me any problems. I am not sure what model it is. But she is registered with Escourt. My opinion is you get what you pay for. You want a cheap one, then that is what your going to get. Back when I bought mine, back then it was over $400.00. I thought I was stupid for paying that much. The very first day in use, it began saving me tickets. So, I say go for it. Thank you for letting me put in my 2 cents.

Digital camera Review: Peerless performance
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had a Valentine One for four years and am preparing to order another one for our second car, since I've just had the first one hard-wired into our new one. The hands-down "winningest" features are the arrow system to tell you where the radars are and the "bogey counter" that tells you how many different signals the V1 is receiving. My wife is very impressed that the V1 can see so far down the road and over hills. Some reviews snipe at the V1's boxy styling. I didn't buy it to make a fashion statement. I bought it for its unmatched performance. There is a very nifty option: a small lightweight plastic block called a "concealed display" that has the direction lights, type-of-radar lights, and a mute on/off button. I velcro-mount it to my steering wheel column near the dash, so I don't have to look up to see what's going on (my V1 is near the roofline). Think about how much a ticket would cost, adding in risk of an insurance premium increase. The V1 is the way to go. Recommend that if you hard-wire the unit, you have the tech leave the in-line fuse exposed or at least easy-to-access.

Digital camera Review: Poor Customer Service
Summary: 2 Stars

If you are confident you will recieve a perfectly functioning unit, then disregard this review. The customer service from this company is some of the worst I've ever experienced. If you ever need to call the 800 number to speak with a representative, you will be very frustrated.

Digital camera Review: Rock-solid performer
Summary: 5 Stars

First, if you're looking for a radar detector that provides red light camera and speed camera warnings, then this is not the unit for you. Same goes for updatable GPS databases of known false-positives.

This is definitely a device for the purist - a top-notch radar and laser detector, nothing else.

Yes, you will get false-positives, but after using it for a week or so you will be able to quickly, or immediately, identify them (based on band, strength, and location). If you have an IQ higher than that of a dain bramaged chimpanzee, this should come naturally. Personally speaking, I *like* the high false-positive rate as it ensures that I'm seeing/hearing everything out there, as it allows me to pass my own judgment and act accordingly.

I've been using the same unit since 1999 (an older model with front-only laser detection) and could not be happier. The only tickets I've gotten have been due to (a) having the volume turned all the way down, or (b) not having it with me. My old, outdated V1 served me exceptionally well, but was finally sent in for an upgrade yesterday. I think 11 years is a pretty fantastic run.

My only complaint about the Valentine One is the absence of a relatively simple but useful feature: emergency vehicle detection. Having a warning of an approaching ambulance would be nice purely for the sake of added situational awareness. Then again, the transmitters that emergency vehicles must use to allow this feature to work have been out of production since 1998, so this is somewhat of a moot point.
