Digital camera reviews of Verbatim 96781 Nano Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse - BlackDigital camera Review: Comfortable and configurable wireless optical mouse Summary: 4 Stars

I've been a Logitech USB Marble Mouse Logitech Optical Marble Mouse (USB/PS2) user for years. I use a trackball on my desktop comptuer because it does not cause me the discomfort in my wrist that a mouse causes me. But when I'm traveling and using my laptop, I do not take my trackball with me and normally use the trackpad instead. I've got issues with the trackpad and much prefer to use a mouse for my laptop when traveling and when I can remember to bring a mouse. This Verbatim Nano wirelsss notebook mouse works just fine. It is a comfortable mouse to use and has good configuration options for the left and right buttons. The scroll wheel also acts as both a configurable button and a right click button in addition to it's scroll function.
The mouse is powered by 2-AAA batteries and although I have not had the mouse for very long, I expect the batteries to last a good long time before needing replacing. A tiny, receiver, similar in size to a small USB bluetooth receiver is utilized to connect the mouse to the computer. Verbatim also provides software for both Macs and PC's on CD, to give you ultimate customization of your mouse. On my Mac, I was able to use the mouse even without installing the software, but with limited ability to configure the mouse. You'll definitely want to install the software provided with the Nano for best results.
I initially felt the mouse was a little fragile feeling, but as I used it more, that sort of faded away and now I just use it without giving it a second thought.
I'm not quite sure why Verbatim calls the Nano a "notebook" mouse because it can certainly be used with any computer that provides an available USB port for the receiver to be plugged into. It works equally as well with a notebook as it does with a desktop computer.
One nice feature is that the tiny receiver can be plugged into the bottom of the mouse when not being used. This is quite helpful otherwise the receiver could be misplaced or lost quite easily as it is quite tiny. It should also be mentioned that the mouse automatically will go into sleep mode after a short period of inactivity to conserve battery life. Additionally, when the USB receiver is stored away in the mouse base, the mouse immediately powers off. It took me a little while to figure this out, but you must be careful that you insert the receiver with the proper orientation into the base. Verbatim has thoughtfully molded a tiny triangle symbol into the top of the receiver that should be aligned to a matching triangle on the bottom of the mouse. Once you've aligned the receiver properly, it clicks securely into the base.
The Nano mouse is actually a bit larger than I would like for a traveling mouse, but it's not ridiculously large. Compared to a MacAlly Iopti Jr mini mouse that I used while traveling before I got the Verbatim Nano, it's a little thicker and longer... but the MacAlly was a corded mouse and I do like the wireless mouse better even though its a tad larger.
I've used the Verbatim Nano on a variety of surfaces and it works pretty well overall.
All in all, this is a pretty decent wireless optical mouse and it is priced attractively.

My son had a MAC which fell and ended up destroying the screen. So, without a computer to bring back to college, we started looking at a replacement. Long story short, with Macs being way to expensive at this economic time, I got him a netbook. Of course, it took some getting used to. One of his his principal complaints was trying to navigate the smaller 10" netbook. When I saw this Verbatim 96781 Nano Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse I jumped at it. It was small enough that he could leave it plugged into his port without having to disconnect it when he was packing it up to take with him. Given his track record of losing stuff, to me that was a great feature. The ergonomic design of the mouse is not too big or small and fits perfectly for him to use. I know I never see him using the netbook anymore without the wireless mouse, so I know it's a tremendous asset for him. I am in the market now for monitor and maybe even a docking station now, so he will be able to actually set up a desk in his dorm with the netbook. The mouse is perfect for his use, it is economically priced, and I think you will be hard pressed to find something better. I rarely rate items here as a 4 star, but I feel I must with the Verbatim. We are very pleased.

I may not be a world-wide expert on mice, but I've had my experience of a few. I started with no-name mice in the early 1990s, but soon switched to Microsoft Mice because they were much more reliable. That was true until about two years ago, when two wireless Microsoft mice broke on me after six months each.
At this time, one of the local discount chains was having a sale on Logitech wireless mice, and I bought one because it was a name brand wireless mouse. It has worked very well to this day, and prompted me to get another Logitech mouse when I bought my netbook.
That new mouse went on my desktop, and has proved as reliable as the other Logitech mouse. Because my new Asus eee 1000HE netbook has a realistic 6:30 hours life, I use it in bed. The plain blanket is the "mouse pad."
The only disadvantage of the old Logitech mouse was that it has a relatively huge receiver stuck in a USB port. I'm worried that one night I will somehow put pressure on this, or drop it, and break the motherboard.
That's why I was attracted to the Verbatim mouse. The "Nano" in its name refers to the tiny receiver which protrudes from the netbook. It's so small that it is only large enough to grab to pull it out of the computer. In fact I think this is unlikely, because once installed you won't want to take it out. It's definitely not a point of leverage.
The Verbatim and the Logitech behave the same. The lack of a mouse pad doesn't worry them. The only strange behavior comes when you rest your hands on the mouse without moving it, when the cursor moves across your screen as though there was a magic hand guiding the mouse. I've tried to stop this in both mice, but it seems that resting your hand tilts the mouse to a degree. I've tried resting my hand and not tilting the mouse, but I can't do it with either mouse. I would imagine a mouse pad would fix this, but it's not really that troublesome.
But otherwise the Verbatim mouse is fine. It's light, it moves easily, and the buttons work well and don't show any signs of breaking. A minor point is that it needs two AAA batteries, but two come in the package. We always have plenty of AA batteries around, so I guess that we'll have to buy a bunch of AAAs. There seem to be no problems with range.
Battery changes shouldn't be necessary that often because if you install the receiver in the bottom of the mouse it switches off. If you keep the receiver in the computer there's an automatic power off after thirty seconds. If you do put the receiver in the mouse it needs a firm push to release it.
There are some computer peripherals that you should be able to "set and forget" like mice. This mouse does that. I would imagine that you might find another mouse that equals the Verbatim, but few that are better. Hence five stars, because it does what you want it to do.
Digital camera Review: Don't buy it Summary: 1 Stars
Bought it for the receiver size and design, but now regret not spending a little more and getting another brand. Yes, it is jumpy - even when the mouse is not moving. It gets even worse when not using a mousepad - and who uses a mousepad with a laptop?? It has to be re-synched with the receiver ever time the laptop is turned on, rebooted, or even hibernates. Wish I could return it. Will certainly replace it.
