Digital camera reviews of Verbatim 96781 Nano Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse - BlackDigital camera Review: Poorly designed mouse. Summary: 1 Stars
This mouse design is poorly thought out. The primary flaw is that the only way to turn off the mouse is to secure the dongle inside the mouse. This eliminates the major advantage of having a micro dongle: you can't leave the dongle in your laptop! This design feature is so frustrating, and so poorly thought out that it alone makes this mouse deserve a 1 star review.
Aside from the design flaw, the dongle has considerable connectivity issues when initially putting the dongle in the USB drive. This problem is enhanced because you need to constantly remove and replace the dongle.
The mouse tracks poorly, especially on surfaces with even a minor gloss.
The ergonomics are acceptable.
Overall this mouse should be avoided. It is just so poorly engineered.
Digital camera Review: Scroll Wheel Wears Out After About 6 Months Use Summary: 2 Stars
This wireless mouse is OK when new. Not much better, nor worse, than other wireless mice that I have on hand. But, after about six months of use, the scroll wheel seemed to have worn out, and scrolling became erratically jerky and uneven. Also, cursor wandered around the screen on its own which was disconcerting, but not bad enough to be disqualifying. Inserting fresh batteries did not help either problem, nor did using other mouse pads, as has been noted by other reviewers. My advice: buy some other mouse. In fact, I have just ordered a Logitech Wireless Mouse M505 (Red) from Amazon as a replacement.
Digital camera Review: Simple and very affordable Summary: 5 Stars
The Verbatim Nano has all the needed functions without the large price tag of other nano mice. The hidaway reciever storage and sleep mode are a big plus for me, and just a tap of either right or left mouse buttons reactivates the mouse is great. I teach a computer art class and provide several computers for students to use. There are always comments about the really cool mouse from my students and where can they get one. I have purchased three Verbatim Nano mice.
Digital camera Review: Stores its own USB receiver when not in use! Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
It's simple to set up, does what it's supposed to do reasonably well, and plays well with Snow Leopard. Plus it turns what could have been its biggest liability into a great asset. That's exactly what a good computer accessory is supposed to do.
Observations pro:
1) The best thing about the mouse is the way the little USB transmitter folds into the bottom for storage. Without that storage nook, I would likely lose the tiny (and I mean tiny) USB receiver the moment I removed it from my computer, and this elegant little mouse would have become an elegant little piece of plastic garbage.
2) The optical sensor works well on multiple surfaces of varying smoothness.
Observations con (but not all that con):
1) I wish the mouse used one AA instead of 2 AAA batteries. I *really* wish the battery compartment wasn't vertical, and the little piece of plastic used to pull the inner battery out hadn't snapped the moment I tried to pull the batteries out. This is just bad design, and it keeps me from giving this product five stars.
2) The mouse's default speed was obscenely fast and twitchy--it was almost unusable until I went into my preference pane and slowed it down. A lot.
3) The mouse shuts down after a few minutes of inactivity. On the one hand, there does not seem to be an option to control this behavior. On the other hand, restarting the mouse is easy: just press one of its buttons.
Verbatim, long time storage media specialists (e.g., DVD-Rs, portable external hard drives, USB keys, and for those of you with really long memories, 5-inch floppies), appear to be branching out to new territory in computer accessories. In particular, they appear to be taking dead aim at Logitech. Verbatim's 96781 is a dead ringer for Logitech's V450.
If Verbatim can consistently make mice and keyboards of this quality and creativity (see pro #1 above), along with a good solid marketing campaign, they might just give Logitech a run for its money.
Digital camera Review: The perfect Netbook mouse Summary: 4 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This mouse is great for use with my netbook. I really like the small form factor of the usb wireless plug. It barely sticks out of my netbook. Because of this, I can just leave the USB plugged it without affecting the portability of the netbook. Even when I am not using the mouse, the plug is so small that I just forget it is there.
If the plug is so small, it could be easily lost except that on the bottom of the mouse is a little dock that the USB plug locks into. Of course, if you forget it is there, you might spend a while looking for it because it is firmly and snugly stored away.
The only downside of this mouse is for those that are used to more buttons. I am used to a higher DPI, 5 button mouse and missing the 4th and 5th button took some getting used to. However, this is a minor inconvenience compared to the benefits gained from being no longer tied to the netbooks touchpad.
