WE BOUGHT THIS AFTER OUR VICKS COOL MIST HUMIDIFIER CAUGHT ON FIRE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AFTER 2 WEEKS OF USE. iT WORKS GOOD. iT WORKS SO GOOD THAT WE USUALLY HAVE TO TURN IT OFF BEFORE MORNING BECAUSE IT GETS TO HOT IN MY BABIES ROOM. IT IS VERY QUIET AND CAN HARDLY HEAR IT, BUT THE MIST COMING OUT STINKS LIKE A PIG FARM! IT HAS SMELLED THIS WAY SINCE THE FIRST NIGHT WE USED IT. WE HAVE BEEN WAITING TO SEE IF IT WOULD GO AWAY AFTER SOME USE-MAYBE A NEW PLASTIC SMELL. IT HAS BEEN 2 WEEKS AND IT STILL SMELLS. WE WILL RETURN IT TODAY. I HAVEN'T HAD MUCH LUCK WITH VICKS PRODUCTS. I WILL PROBABLY TRY A DIFFERENT BRAND.Digital camera Review: Smell

I suppose the operation of the unit works fine, we have no complaints there. We are concerned with the smell that the unit outputs. We have extreamly hard water and are using the demin. filter that came with the unit. As soon as we started the humidifier, there was a sharp smell coming out with the vapors. We tried 3 humidifiers for our baby, and this was the best. It's quiet, and the tank is big. You can get two night's use out of a single filling. I also like being able to control the amount and direction of the water vapor. The only downside is having to clean the tank and base on a regular basis (a small price to pay when your baby has cold).Digital camera Review: This is not silent...

I wanted a humidifier that was silent, but when I plugged this in, not only could I hear it from the other room, but it's a high-pitched whine. I don't know what to do about it. I think I'll probably just return it for something different.
