I bought the VTec cordless phone system in an attempt to get a beter quality signal / sound from my phones. This unit still produces too much static to be rated a top product. Usually I am able to move several feet away from my original position and elimnate most of the static. Although I 've not yet read a page of the instructions booklet, all seems to be working just fine. Love the 5 handsets to spread around the property. The LCD screen could have a better contrasst of colors than the blue background with purpleish text. Black would have been a better choice for the text. Shipper had it to me in 3 days...execllent. After searching the internet and checking with Consumer Reports, I found the Vtech Communications #DS6121-5, 5-Handset Phone System. They looked slim and small. After ordering the phones, the hook up was really easy. I have digital phone service and the VTECH works great. While I liked the features - especially the fact that a name/number stored on any hand set is automatically added to all other handsets, I have had 2 base stations "die" in 5 months. I returned the first one and a "refurbished" one was returned to me in about 2 weeks. I'm not bothering to return the 2nd one.
Maybe I'm just unlucky but it suggests reliability problems to me!!
