Digital camera reviews of Western Digital 500 GB Caviar Green SATA 3 Gb/s Intellipower 32 MB Cache Bulk/OEM Desktop Hard Drive - WD5000AADSDigital camera Review: OUTSTANDING!! Summary: 5 Stars
Great product, great price! Had 2 replace IDE HD that had gone bad on my Win XP Home/SP3 PC. PC is about 4-5 years old and fortunately the motherboard had a couple of SATA connections. After drive had shipped 2 my home, went 2 Fry's 2 buy SATA & power cables. Ended up spending the same $ amount if I would have bought them w\ HD on Amazon. Also, discovered I had paid 50% less than if I had bought the drive @ Fry's. Heh!! I'm happy 'bout that! The ONLY issue I had were with the cables: the plastic grips were too fat. Every time I placed one of the cables into its appropriate slot, i couldn't get the other cable to sit well into its slot. So, had 2 manually "sand" off some of the plastic by rubbing it against the concrete on my patio. Then, success! I had the drive formatted and Win XP Home installed in < 2.5 hrs.
Digital camera Review: RMA'd it Within 30 Days Summary: 1 Stars
I ordered this drive mid January 2010 and by mid February 2010 I RMA'd it. Windows Vista would not boot and when I ran Check Disk there were all kinds of errors. It did work for a few weeks, but the whole computer ran slow. I used a program from Western Digital's website to make an identical copy of my old hard drive, so I think that had something to do with it, but it could have been the packaging. The packaging was simply bubble wrap on the hard drive as opposed to the replacement that Western Digital sent me was in molded plastic designed to fit the hard drive.
What I learned from the whole experience: if your drive goes bad, send it back to Amazon if possible because Western Digital made me pay for shipping!!
So I guess I'm rating the RMA process from Western Digital and it gets 1 star because I had to pay to ship a broken product back to them.
I ended up buying a 750GB Caviar Green in the meantime and it works fine. Did a fresh install of 7 instead of Vista. 7 is noticeably faster.
Digital camera Review: Replace Seagate, no issues Summary: 5 Stars
To date, 3 of the 4 original Seagate drives have failed in my NetGear NAS. Thankfully one at a time. I have replaced them all with 500GB Western Digital drives. Been months since original failure and weeks since the last one. So far no issues. Time will tell. The original Seagate drives lasted over a year or so before they failed with clicking noises. If this drive fails, I will be sure to update review.
Digital camera Review: Solid Drive, ordered 3 of them for striped RAID Summary: 5 Stars
A brief review - rock solid and easy to configure, in my case for fast disk access via a striped array in a homebrew PC.
Digital camera Review: Very good product, would buy from again. Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this to replace a hard drive in my computer so that I could give the old one to my son since his went out.
