Digital camera Review: Superb Packaging

I'm usually the Newegg buyer. But this time, Amazon has done it again. I bought a week ago and it came in in perfect condition. Packaging was great. IMHO, it's much better than Newegg. Two separate thick foam smashed together with the Hard drive in between. Past experiences with Newegg left me with DOAs. My computer recognize the 640Gb. So it's good and a recommended buy. Will buy from Amazon again!!
--Ps: I'm not hatin' on Newegg...I still buy stuff there.
Digital camera Review: Terrible Packaging (not like pictured w/ black packing material)

I'm scared to even try this thing out...the packaging was horrible for something as sensitive as a HDD. It was packed with only a loose fitting cardboard cutout type of packing, which still allowed it shift a lot in every direction. It wasn't even sealed...WTF? Hopefully this thing works...I'm only wrighting this now as to how poor the packaging is so as to let other know before they order what to expect. I know that WD make very reliable drive and I will rate this review based on that but, Amazon needs to put a little more care in making sure that there products are received in a manner which will satisfy it's customers.Digital camera Review: Terrific Hardrive + Bad Shipping

I will start off by stating that these are excellent hard drives, as I own several other Black Edition drives. These drives are fast, fairly quiet, and will last a long time if handled correctly. I run mine constantly with no problems. I prefer the 640 GB version using (2) platters over the higher capacity 750 GB or 1 TB model.
The drive arrived to me in lightly wrapped bubble wrap with one air bag lying against one side of the drive against the packing box. It is pathetic that Amazon persists in shipping (packaging) these hard drives in such a bad manner. It is a wonder that customers don't have a 50% failure rate from Amazon's poor packaging on these drives.
The first thing I did was a full format and then run a complete diagnostics test to determine if the hard drive was damaged or not. Fortunately the hard drive passed all of the diagnostic read-write tests and appears to be ok. Only time will tell if it is going to be reliable. Bottom line is that the drive is excellent - the shipping and packaging are horrible. I will not order any more hard drives from Amazon, but I would not hesitate to buy this hard drive from a different seller or vendor. I give the drive 5 stars, but I have to deduct 1 star for the lousy condition it was shipped in. For those of you contemplating on buying this drive from Amazon, be forewarned it might be a crapshoot if yours gets delivered damaged.

I ordered two of these drives for my relatively new i7 computer in hopes that I could raise my windows experience score above 5.9. I had been using two non-raid configured 640 GB Caviar blue drives and thought the black versions connected in RAID 1 might help speed things up a bit. However, the windows score for the drives which was the limiting thing for my system did not change. It was still 5.9. The drives are working just fine and are only a little noisier than the blue versions.
The packaging was sufficient since they both work, but wasn't as good as the packaging on the blue drives. The blue versions came in nice foam rubber filled boxes within the shipping box. These were protected by bubble wrap.

Wow, it is much faster than my old 160GB Western Digital SE. "Much faster" means you can easily notice the performance difference almost everywhere.
However, it also works much louder than my old drive and some contemporary rivals. My lots of work is on DSLR Raw files handling, such as converting hundreds RAWs to JPGs. It is really loud during this kind of process...I can even distinguish every little reading/writing "peak"(1 raw->1 jpg) just by listening the sound:) This is the only downside of this drive.
