Digital camera reviews of Western Digital My Book Essential Edition 500 GB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive WDG1U5000Digital camera Review: A Grave Warning Summary: 1 Stars
The power supply failed on this thing after I backed up tons of files to it. I found another power supply to try with it so I could find out if the actual drive still worked. It didn't. It's less than 2 months old. This qualifies it as a piece of garbage that should be avoided. I wish I'd gone with Seagate.
Digital camera Review: A Great Storage Device Summary: 5 Stars
I got one of these for Christmas and no sooner than when I plugged it into my computer I could start using it. It is great for storing large amounts of data, like Recorded TV Shows from Windows Media Center. It can also Be used with a PC an A MAC. Even Though IS says 500 GB there is Only 465 GB to use.
Digital camera Review: A good buy! Summary: 5 Stars
A few weeks ago I received my My Book which I had ordered from Amazon. Basically its a 500 GB external hard-disk and that means a decent amount of storage space. It came nicely packaged and the drive itself is smaller than one would think. The casing is black and looks inconspicuous and has these interesting morse-codish holes for ventilation. You can stack them up if you've got more than one.
It comes with some pre-loaded software that you shouldn't worry about too much. Once I powered it, it showed up almost immediately on my PC. The first thing I did was to format it in NTFS so I could store files greater than 4 GB at a time. This took about 40 minutes.
The main purpose for this purchase is to back-up my stuff and other media content (movies, TV-shows, documentaries, etc.). I also plan to back-up most of my DVD collection to it and then perhaps sell off my DVDs (gasp!). I don't think it will be too long before I get another one.
The drive is quite speedy and doesn't make any noticeable amount of noise. I would definitely recommend it!
Digital camera Review: A good way to waste your money Summary: 1 Stars
First of all I could not get data to transfer. Uses a program called Acronis to backup. It never worked, not even once. I bought it from the person who set up my computer right before he left on an extended trip to Korea so I couldn't return it. His advice to me was to transfer data manually (drag and drop) which seemed to work okay but was highly impractical and very slow.
Then my computer stopped recognizing it so I can't even do that any more, much less retrieve what I put on there. Basically it was a total waste of time and money. It should not be that hard to make an external hard drive type product to store data in. Manufacturers should be ashamed of themselves for cutting too many corners and not giving us a reliable product. If I could I would give it 0 stars.
Digital camera Review: A piece of waste Summary: 1 Stars
This product is so unreliable, it stopped working after a few months. I spent more time to clean it up. Not to mention the data loss. Please do not buy this product, or you will regret!
