Digital camera reviews of Western Digital My Book Mirror Edition 2TB USB 2.0 (WDH2U20000N)Digital camera Review: Piece of Crap! Summary: 1 Stars
I have always been a fan of WD internal drives. Never once had one fail. I guess their external drives are not as good. I bought this unit a couple months ago and saw the drive failure problems noted in the review section but ignored them because I figured its a mirrored system right? NO. not quite. Apparently both drives were corrupted by the controller and I lost all my data. What a sham. Now neither of the drives will format at all. Ive taken them out independently and hooked them strait into a desktop. nothing...... All I get are formatting errors. Do not trust this drive with any important data..
Digital camera Review: Protecting restored data Summary: 4 Stars
I needed a safe and secure place to store some important email data. I had a single LTO3 backup tape that contained over 150 users email databases. I wanted to restore to an external drive, but I needed the security of RAID 1 mirroring for that extra safety net. This drive was a breeze to setup. I attached it first to my XP workstation and later to a Windows 2003 Server - no issues with either. My only caution is that out-of-the-box it is configured RAID 0. You must take steps to reconfigure it if you want RAID 1 mirroring.
Digital camera Review: Quiet, Fast, Simple Summary: 5 Stars
This product lives up to its name, with great RAID options, easy user maintenance, and set it and forget it simplicity. Price shows just how much the cost per gig has declined in the last 5 years, and will prove useful for years to come. USB 2 is useful with RAID 0 option and full 2TB capacity.
Digital camera Review: SUPER simple set-up Summary: 5 Stars
Rec'd my RAID drives yesterday.... SUPER simple to set up. Unbox, install CD, plug in, and ready to go within 5 minutes. Nice look to it. Quiet and power efficient.
Digital camera Review: Solid Backup USB RAID Hard Drive - Recommended Summary: 4 Stars
We use the Western Digital My Book 2TB Mirror Edition USB drive configured in RAID 1 (mirroring), which essentially gives us a 1TB drive that is automatically backed up. We recently had an un-backed up hard drive fail and looked into getting some of our critical files recovered from the device, however the recovery company wanted more than we were willing to spend. That experience was a painful lesson ("an ounce of prevention...") for us and I started to look for a solution that would reduce the risk of a reoccurrence. After a little research, and taking my limited budget into consideration, this drive seemed to be a good choice.
I have the drive connected to the USB port of my Netgear Rangemax WNDR3700 Dual Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router (Black), which makes it a shared network drive that is accessible from all of my PCs. This means that I did not use the backup software that was included with the drive, so I can't review that aspect.
The drive has worked exactly as expected and the performance speed has been perfectly acceptable.
This is a good value for a large RAID drive that gives me a little piece of mind, Recommended!
