Overseas buyers beware!
I purchased the unit for my Tivo 3 series in Australia. The small print on the WD packaging & WD website stated it was compatible with Series 3, not in my case.
I followed the installation instructions to the letter 6 times & kept receiving the same message "External drive attached NOT compatible".
Tivo & WD in Australia both advised they do not support the product as it was not purchased in Australia. They both advised I return it to Amazon USA for a refund.
Amazon were prompt in supplying a full refund, but they only covered limited postal charges. Unfortunately I was still partially out of pocket as a result of this transaction.
No international warnings/disclaimers were adequately displayed.
Overseas buyers beware.

The harddrive seems very fast, reliable, and couldn't be better.

1 TB doesn't work with Scientific Atlanta 8300HD!!!
It drove me crazy for a month, replaced the 1 TB twice and also had my cable boxes replaced. Then, I started to move the DVR's around to and found that every cable box I hooked up the 1 TB didn't work well...It would stutter, skip every minute or two.
It could be that Scientific Atlanta 8300HD does not support extenders over 500 GB or 1 TB is not compatible with Scientific Atlanta 8300 series
I had good luck with Western Digital My DVR Expander 500 GB eSATA, own two of them and still works really well.
Nevertheless, gave it 3 stars giving WD benefit of doubt from past products and experiences. I should have read the reviews more carefully before ordering replacement and save myself all the trouble for a month. Got another 500 GB and it work fine.
