I was afraid of wasting my money and finding out this hard drive was not going to work with my Scientific Atlanta 8300HD cable box. I was at 100% full.
I took a gamble and got it. I connected it to the eSATA connection on the back of the box after following the instructions to the letter.
1. Turn off the power to the DVR and connect the new expansion drive to it.
2. Power up the new drive
3. Power up the DVR box.
4. Let it go thru its boot sequence.
5. Answer yes to use the new drive when prompted.
My 100% when down to 14% and I did not lose a single program. My wife had me get a second one for our other DVR box the next week. I have them for over a month now and so far no problems.
Well worth the money!!

This is just like an external storage drive except it uses an eSATA connection rather than USB or Firewire. eSATA is faster than USB and Firewire. Only thing bad about this device is that it can only be used in conjunction with certain model DVRs to store programs that have been recorded and you want to save for future playback. It cannot be used for other storage purposes and you cannot access or move the stored data on another playback device as it is designed to erase all stored data if it is disconnected from the DVR in order to protect piracy of the recorded programming. Product does exactly what it says. This product was backordered everywhere for over six months since last November '09 possibly due to errors encountered/reported by users. The company finally provided some driver updates and is now available again and it works perfectly. Just attach it to your TiVo HD with the included esata cable and then TiVo will ask to reboot, when the system comes up you'll have more storage space. Completely effortless.
