Digital camera Review: Died after 10 months!

I've always been a fan of WD hard drives so I was sure that the quality problems with this 1TB expander were blown out of proportion, so I had no problem ordering one...
Lo and behold, 10 months after I installed it, the Tivo HD started randomly rebooting itself. I ran the diagnostic tests per Tivo support's instructions and it failed with flying colors. "Fail 7" it says... Awesome.
One good thing is that WD makes it easy to return your drive. They'll even ship your new one out before you ship them the broken one so you won't have to be without a drive while you wait for the replacement.
I'd avoid this drive. Maybe try the newer version, maybe it'll be better.

I've read other reviews about this product and worried about losing all of my recorded programs if this drive failed. Well, it did and I did. Fortunately, WD has a one-year warranty so I'm getting a RMA for a new one. Even though I lost a ton of shows, I would like to give it another shot. Anyway, just a word to the wise out there if you're thinking about getting one of these. I see there's a newer version listed on Amazon so I'm hoping this one will not fail. Bought it based on all the great reviews and supposed support of the Scientific Atlanta 8240 DVR. Well, it doesn't work at all. In fact after multiple attempts and even reformatting the drive it rendered my DVR useless (continually stuck in BOOT mode, even with the drive disconnected).
I've returned the WD DVR Expander, and am waiting for the Apricorn. Unfortunately I have to take my 8240 down to the Time Warner service center and stand in line for hours to get a new one. Plus I've lost all my recorded shows and programming. Joy!
I bought the Apricorn 1TB DVR Expander (from Amazon, it's actually a few bucks cheaper) as they do state they directly support the Scientific Atlanta 8240 series.
BTW: I called WD support, they referred me to Scientific Atlanta. SA doesn't offer support, so they just refer me to Time Warner. TW doesn't offer support, so basically NOBODY OFFERS SUPPORT for this DVR and this DVR Expander! It's frustrating as hell I tell you!
Another tech at Time Warner specifically recommended the Apricorn DVR expanders for their DVRs (8240 and 8300). And, as you can see from [....] -- they are directly supported.
In closing, avoid the headaches and avoid this drive!
UPDATE 1/4/2010 -- Sent back WD drive; received Apricorn 1TB DVR Expander. Hooked it up and it worked like a charm right away. No hassles!
Digital camera Review: Does Not Work with Scientific Atlanta 8300HD (Cablevision IO TV)

Recordings glitch.
Contacted Western Digital. They Verified it is NOT compatible
with my 8300HD (160GB internal HD).
The WD website only reports TIVO compatability with the 1TB version.
Only the WD 500GB Version is listed as compatible with the SA 8300HD.
I even tried a shorter cable. Didn't work.
Item returned for refund !!!

This expander does just what it should. I am now able to record any number of programs without having to save them to keep from being deleted. It was extremely easy to hook up. This is a good purchase for those who are heavy into recording programs on their dvr.
