Digital camera reviews of Western Digital My DVR Expander 1 TB eSATA External Hard DriveDigital camera Review: East to Install and Great to Have... Summary: 5 Stars
When I bought my TiVo HD, I was not regularly recording programs in Hi-Def so drive size was not very important to me. Once more HD programming became available I found myself struggling to decide what programs to keep and which to delete in the interest of space. I solved the dilemma by purchasing this 1Tb expansion drive and I've been quite happy with it.
Installation was easy - the TiVo knew exactly what it was. I've now been using the drive for a few months and have never had a problem. The price is a steal considering ease of installation and use.
Digital camera Review: Easy for a non tech person Summary: 5 Stars
I read all the reviews carefully before buying, so thanks to the folks who really know the tech side of all this. This machine was listed by Direct TV on their website. Direct TV says that they don't support adding extra machines. That made me uneasy about messing up what I had save on my DVR so I followed the directions exactly. It does indeed bypass the storage on my DVR but that can be accessed by disconnecting the Western Digital Expander. All that I had saved was safe and working. With the Western Digital machine working I don't see any difference except PLENTY of space.
Digital camera Review: Easy to Install, works great Summary: 5 Stars
I got this for a DirecTV DVR/Receiver. It comes with an E-SATA cable so there's nothing else to buy. Installation is a no-brainer. Power down the DVR/Receiver, plug in the DVR Expander, power it up and then power up the DVR/Receiver. I don't know if it works this way with Tivo DVRs, but on this one the use of the internal hard drive is lost when this drive is added. That means anything you have on the internal drive is lost once you install this one. I knew I would lose any recorded programs on the internal drive, but also found out I would lose all of the programming set up for future recording. I've only had it for a few weeks so can't say about reliability, but it works flawlessly and is quiet so I'm very happy with it. I can now hold about 200 hours of HD programs.
Digital camera Review: Easy to hook up, flawless performance Summary: 5 Stars
I'm using this with a Directv DVR. Installation took 1 minute, literally. Rebooted the DVR, drive was recognized and it's done. Thus far it has worked perfectly.
Update November 2010. Still working flawlessly even through power failures and surges. I recommend this without reservation.
Digital camera Review: Easy to install Summary: 5 Stars
I followed the instructions and installed the drive in a few minutes. The Tivo did the rest after I went through the steps to introduce the drive to the Tivo. No issues so far and plenty of recording time.
