I bought two of these drives over a period of time. The 1st one lasted about 1 year and I thought my Tivo died. But then found out after Tivo replaced my Tivo at a price -- that it was actually the Western Digital My DVR Expander that died. Okay, so now that I know the 1st one died I hooked up a new Western Digital My DVR Expander. It lasted several months before it died. What a waste of money -- stay away from Western Digital products at all costs, even if it's free what good is it if you lose the shows/movies you have not watched yet!!!Digital camera Review: A Must Have for High Def Tivo

It couldn't have been easier to install. Plug and play. It's so nice to be able to record what I want and watch when I want without having to worry about 'cleaning house'. I wanted an external hard drive for my Tivo and oh boy! thank the day I found my Western Digital My DVR Expander 500 GB eSATA Desktop External Hard Drive WDG1S5000VN. It's child's play to install! All I had to do is to read the instructions carefully and I was able to understand it without much ado.
If there is a 1TB strength, I could continue to enjoy my home theatre all the time. But for a short eSATA cable, this is a much-needed hometheater companion.

First of all I love this product! My Dvr was constantly running short on room. High definition programming takes up a lot of room on your dvr. Mine could only hold around 20 hours of HD content. I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 8300HDC DVR and have my service trough Time Warner Cable. Set up took almost no time at all. Simply plug unit in and wait for the DVR to boot. My storage usage was 54% before I hooked up the HDD, after, it went down to 13%. I was considering getting the larger one but now realize that the 500 gig one is just fine. If your constantly running out of room and have a compatible dvr you cant go wrong for the price!Digital camera Review: A must fior Tivo users

It is irritating that not just any hardrive will work.... having said that any Tivo user can get much greater use out of the Tivo with a 500 GB hard drive, especially if recording HD.
