Like so many - My expander died after a year. TiVo recordings started to fail during record and during playback. Unplugged the expander, lost all the recordings, But the TiVo works fine.
Don't Buy It - Just get another TiVo. Or do an upgrade on the one you have.

This is the only product I was able to find or use to expand my Cablevision Scientific Atlanta DVR cable box. I tried several other ESATA drives, however they did not work with this cable box. Both Scientific Atlanta and Cablevision offered very little support about finding the correct ESATA drive for my DVR cable box. Installation was easy, however you have to remember to power on the ESATA drive first and wait about 15 seconds before powering on the cable box. In case of a power failure you also have to repeat these steps. This 500 GB drive will expand your capacity about 4 fold. Before installation my internal hard drive as 98% full, and after the installation it was 24% full. So far it has preformed very well. With all of the HD programming available now, this is an awesome way to save many of your shows until you can find the time to watch them. Works great and expands your HD recording on the Scientific Atlanta 8300HD cable box from just under 20 hours to almost 100 HOURS of HD programs. The only risk is that the unit is an external hard drive which is always subject to breaking down without warning. (Read reviews on just about any external hard drive and you will hear about the sad record of external hard drives in general.) Of course, the HD-DVR cable box itself is mainly just an external hard drive for storing programs, so the box itself is always "at risk" of failure. Still, for the money, you cannot beat the convenience of having the additional 80 hours of HD recording. You must have it!Digital camera Review: DVR Storage

I don't know about you but I like to watch TV without the commercials. There are quite a few programs that are in High Def. and take up allot of space and some nights there are two on at a time. Sometimes 3 or 4 programs at a time so the DVR's fill up fast. With the addition of this hard drive you can fit quite a bit more and once installed you don't have to do anything. It works seamlessly and you won't even know it is there. The only difference is it holds a lot more programs. It is easy to install all you have to do is plug it in reboot format when it tells you to and that is it you are done. So easy anyone can do it.
