Digital camera Review: DVR expander
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy to setup with my Brighthouse DVR. All I needed to do was format the unit and then turn off and back on the DVR and it worked.

Digital camera Review: Dead simple
Summary: 5 Stars

Got a new HD set and Tivo HD just before the Olympics. Realized that only 20 hours of HD would not catch all the action. For just a few bucks, I was able to get up to 80+ hours of HD and more SD TV than anyone could ever watch. I hate having to manage space on the Tivo, and with this device, you don't have to.

Installation was dead simple. Follow the instructions, plug things in in the right order and is just works. Once installed, you can't remove it without losing all your recordings, but that is a fair compromise.

Digital camera Review: Did not work with my Scientific Atlanta 8300 HDC
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased this to use with an SA 8300 HDC. Cable provider is Time Warner in Milwaukee area. Time Warner verified the esata port on the 8300 was active but would not support its use. The expander was recognized fine and appeared to install properly. Also, the available space increased dramatically. But within 24 hours I started to have issues recording shows. Two different scenarios happened. 1) Shows will not record at all. Scheduled recordings will not start, and if I press the record button on my remote nothing happens. Also, I cannot rewind, pause or fast forward live TV. 2) Shows have appeared to record, but I cannot play them back. The cable box shows 'Record' on the LCD screen like normal, and the show appears in my recorded list, but when I go to playback nothing happens, the screen remains blank. I contacted WD support and was told to contact Scientific Atlanta. Since they 'certify' it works with the 8300 series I thought they would offer some troubleshooting options. I have returned the item since it did not function properly with my 8300 HDC.

Digital camera Review: Died after 30 days
Summary: 3 Stars

The external storage worked great and died after 30 days. With Tivo, you lose most recordings as it puts recordings on both. Have opend an RMA with WD and will see how a replacement works.

Digital camera Review: Died after six months
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this in October and by December, I was having trouble with the loosely-connected cables. The TIVO would not recognize that the drive was attached. I would have to unplug and reconnectly constantly until it worked. Then, finally in March, it died completely (taking all my recordings with it) and I sent it in for a replacement...which is when the real fun began. Western Digital has TERRIBLE customer service. I overnighted the unite to their RMA department, where it sat in their receiving warehouse for a full week without being logged into the system. It was only after I called and gave them my UPS tracking number that they finally changed the RMA status to "received." Fast forward a week later and I am still waiting for them to ship the replacement unit. Not worth it. Get the TIVO XL instead.
