Plug it in and go. Works exactly as it should and as advertised.
I have used WD hard drives for several years and have never had trouble with them.
The price is right, the capacity is more than adequate; what's not to like?

I love the WD "My Passport Essential". This device is so easy to use and ultra portable, I highly recommend it. I use it to store my photos and music on so that I have more room on my computer which makes it work faster! I have gotten a second WD Passport and keep it in a fireproof safe. I update the one in the safe at least once a month. I have a friend who has a third one that he keeps at his parent's house for that "just in case something happens". I haven't done that yet but as I get more and more photos (15,000 so far and another grandchild will certainly add to that!) I am considering a third one to keep at the office. If you do buy multiple ones, I would suggest different colors so that you can keep straight which one is which ~ or at least label them.Digital camera Review: Top 10 tech purchase

After about 45 days, I am so happy with this hd. It saved me when a laptop failed and it has made back-ups and moving between computers (Mac and PC) a snap. It's fast, quiet, and was beyond easy to use immediately. My only suggestion: a longer usb cable, maybe even retractable.
