Digital camera reviews of Western Digital My Passport Essential 320 GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive WDME3200TN (Midnight Black)Digital camera Review: Western Digital WDMER2500TN My PassPort Essential 250GB USB 2.0 Portable Hard Drive Summary: 4 StarsIt's a nice external hard drive. I like it.
At the same time you need to remember that this USB drive is not as fast as a typical internal hard drive.
Digital camera Review: portabe hard drive Summary: 5 Starseasy to use love it put my music on it to carry around with laptop
Digital camera Review: very worthwhile purchase Summary: 5 StarsI bought this Passport external hard drive because I have so many digital photos and needed a backup other than Flickr. I also recently bought a new laptop so wanted an easy way to move photos and files from my old computer to my new one. The passport did both, and I'm very pleased with it. It was easy to use, and even after loading at least a thousand digital photos (probably more) and backing up my iTunes library of over 1000 songs, I still have a ton of free space left on it. It's also very small and easy to carry along in my computer case. The only con I can think of isn't much of a con - I ordered purple, and it really looks blue to me. (It is pretty much the color it looks online.) This would probably only matter to someone obsessed with color-coordination, though. I'm fine with it and I highly recommend the Passport.
Digital camera Review: Works great. Just remember: it's not PC-ready. Summary: 4 StarsI thought I had to return it for errors. At first usage, it did not want to work. The computer was not detecting the drive at all. I searched the website for drivers. No luck. I did a search for the manual, and found one online as a PDF which informed me that this drive was shipped MAC-ready and not PC-ready. (I'm not sure if this is my fault for not specifying my OS.) So, off I go to search for a way to reformat the drive for the PC. Which took a while and finally worked.
After that, the 320 GB drive worked like a breeze. It's small, portable, and fast enough for regular usage. I use a lot of portable apps with it: browser, mp3 player, etc., and it is rock solid.
The felt carrying case which comes with it is a nice touch, as it prevents scratches. No need to get one of those carrying cases.
Highly recommended, I just take one star off for the hassle of not advertising out on the box that the drive is shipped formatted for the Mac.
Digital camera Review: Western Digital Hard Drive delivers Summary: 4 StarsWhen I chose my new MacBook, I assumed I would add hard drive capacity and portability with an external hard drive. After shopping the market, I found the Western Digital Passport (250 GB) offered everything I was looking for - small form factor, transparent installation and connectivity, and fast data access - and it even came in a color (white) to match my Mac. While I am fully satisfied with the unit, I have one minor suggestion: The idiot light that shows you are connected could/should be top-mounted so it can be seen no matter how the drive is oriented.
