Digital camera reviews of Western Digital WD Elements 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive WDE1UBK10000N (Black)Digital camera Review: Best External Hard Drive Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the hard drive from Electronica Direct through Amazon. With the added delivery charge the price was $110.85; about $10 less than Amazons price with added sales tax and free delivery. Delivery was fast -- took less than a week. I took it out of the box, read the directions, plugged it in and, at the suggestion of many reviewers, I formatted it to work with large files from an XP operating system. Formatting took about 3-1/2 hours. I copied everything from my "Documents" directory, and my "Program" directory, taking about an hour each. Only problem I had was there was a file in the "Dell" directory that didn't want to copy, so it stopped short. After investigating, I found out where it stopped and bypassed that file to finish copying the programs.
It is super quiet. Unless you have an extremely quiet environment, the only way you can tell if it is working is by looking at the blue light, or watching the file transfer icon on the monitor.
There is not a lot of documentation with this hard drive, and no programs come with it. You just plug in in and use it just as you would any hard drive. It doesn't get any simpler. I highly recommend this Western Digital Elements 1 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive.
Digital camera Review: Best bang for the buck! Summary: 5 Stars
This is my 4th Elements drive and they are all great! I had one issue with a power adapter, but the customer support was very helpful. I received a replacement later that week and didn't even have to ship the old one back. The casing is solid and the pricing is the best for an external HD. I will continue to be a loyal purchaser of bigger and better Elements drives from WD.
Digital camera Review: Bought it as a gitf, but wanted external power supply Summary: 5 Stars
Not all USB ports are properly powered, so I bought an external HD with it's own power supply, based on previous good experience with Western Digital products. The recipient hasn't complained about any features, so far.
Digital camera Review: Broke down within 30 days Summary: 1 Stars
This external HD broke down within 30 days of purchase and lost a lot of valuable data! I cannot imagine buying anything from WD ever again
Digital camera Review: Built to last Summary: 4 Stars
This unit is built tough. It is solid and heavy. Small enough to not take much room, heavy duty enough to put other items on top of it. It is definitely not a portable drive as it is very heavy for its size.
