WD replaced first with WD5000AAKS, second replacement, WD5000KS.. Be sure to register your drives with WD when you get them. One remaining drive (not replacement) making recurrent sound of winding down but no obvious performance problems. Ran WD boot CD diagnostics (short version) on each drive before 2nd drive went bad but nothing showed up. 22-JAN-08 number 3 died today. Still have noise. Mar-08 4th and last drive died. Replacement noiser than ever. Noticed these replacements are "recertified". No more Western Digital for me.Digital camera Review: SATA 500 GB HD

It was easy install, but NOT plug and play and instructions are a little lacking. You must have blue(sata) power cable and TURN on the port you plug it into then the drive must be "intialized". Then your good to go.Digital camera Review: Satisfied WD Sata Drive Owner for HPMV2120

I own an HPMV2120 with one 500GB hard drive. When I found myself downloading music and videos and other things to keep, I realized very soon that my storage space was getting low and I was looking to expand my server. I chose this drive because it was compatible with my server. I now have a whopping 925.25 GB of space. I again will be looking to expand he drive in the near future with two external drives. I usually don't buy used drives as a rule of thumb but when I saw the price, I knew that it was the right one for me. I never buy reconditioned or refurbished drives simply because you don't really know what you are getting in quality. But, I will consider a "used or like new" drive because you can get a better deal. So overall I am very happy with this drive. I did have a bit of problem (at first) installing it but I realized that the process once read by the manual, the process is very easy. Configuring the drive was a pice of cake. Go for WD drive when you are in the market for a new drive. I haven't had any problems with drives to speak of.Digital camera Review: Second buy, second dissapointment

My experience comes from a few months back, but I guess it's worth mentioning. Throughout the past 10 years, I've only chosen WD drives twice, one back in the 2GB days and one of these a few months back. Sadly, the first one ended with a major multiple sector failure and this one with a critical failure with SMART warning. This drive only lasted me about 3 months, so as of this date, this brand has failed me 100% of the time. I'm back to Seagate drives now.Digital camera Review: 5 Stars
Not only is this drive much faster than my old IDE drive with 8M cache, it is as quiet as can be. In fact, if I didn't see my screen updating, I'd think the drive was dead it's so quiet! It's almost night and day the difference in noise!!!
