Digital camera reviews of Western Digital WDG1SU5000 My Book Premium ES Edition 500 GB USB/eSATA External Hard DriveDigital camera Review: DO NOT let it tip over... Summary: 4 Starsruns like a charm, dies like a soap bubble. ADVICE: tuck those wires neatly out of the way. FRUSTRATION: search for diagnostic utilities.
Digital camera Review: eSATA on Vista 32-bit Summary: 5 StarsWorked beautifully. NOTE: you can't install the card, and then connect the drive.
I bought the seperate SIIG card, and SIIG cable. (This drive only comes with a USB 2.0 cable).
You have to have everything installed and connected, then fire up your computer, and it needs to be connected to the internet. Vista downloads and installs the drivers automatically. It works awesome! If you don't have internet access on your box, you can get the driver files from the SIIG website.
SOOOO FAST! Puts FW800 and other interfaces to shame.
(speed only as fast as the slowest drive in your configuration, of course. Example: if you are copying a file from an internal 1.5Gb/s SATA drive to this drive, it is only as fast as the 1.5...)
enjoy
Digital camera Review: Great product. Just wish it had a FireWire port. Summary: 5 StarsThis product is a great hdd. It works well and looks great. Once the computer recognizes the external hdd, it transfers data at speeds that will blow you away. My only complaint is that I wish it had a FireWire port.
Digital camera Review: Good for some things not others Summary: 3 StarsIt was pretty cool. Plugged it in it worked straight no issues till I tried to store a file that was 7 gigs it would not support that. So I moved my iTunes library to it instead. Im not unhappy kust mildly dissapointed because it wont do what I wanted it for. But if you only intended to store file smaller than 6 gig this is for you.
Digital camera Review: Check customer reviews for the 500 GB Essential version - same story here Summary: 1 StarsSame story like some other customers:
After less than 1 year of usage (used it to store TV movies) the drive started to make strange noises - no way to get XP recognizing the drive anymore (tried several computers).
Got a new drive from WD, however, this one is not working as well. I wrote to customer support three times and didn't get ANY response for about five weeks now.
What else should I say?
