Digital camera reviews of Windows 7 Vista XP Media Center MCE PC Remote Control and Infrared Receiver for Home, Premium and Ultimate EditionDigital camera Review: Excellent & Affordable Media Center Addition Summary: 4 Stars
This item is as good as the reviewers say - I was impressed with the ease of installation (took less than a minute on my Acer Revo Win 7 model), and the hot buttons worked well with Media Center. I just installed the unit today, so I'm still working through it; but, my initial thoughts are very positive. The price was something that also appealed to me - no reason to spend more when this baby has so many features! Speaking of features, I'm really excited about using the mouse which is installed in the middle of the remote, along with left-and right-click buttons. Overall, this was a good buy and would recommend it with the configuration mentioned.
UPDATE: 10/25/2010
Since my initial review, I have come to appreciate this unit even more. I just built a HTPC with Windows 7 64-bit, and was not happy with the Hauppauge remote for the dual tuner 1850. In desperation, I decided to move the remote from my Acer downstairs to this unit and I can tell you that is clearly the best remote I've ever used. It plugged into a non-generic build of WMC7 with no problems. I also like it because it's much simpler for my wife to use than the Harmonys. I could see her and others getting frustrated at the size of the Harmony and the functions you have to perform to switch between remotes. The mouse and left/right click buttons are excellent, and the hot buttons really simplify the Media Center experience. Nearly all the buttons you will need (minus TV power and input selection) are included, and the mouse is a terrific edition. Once you get used to it, you can perform very simple functions like moving and selecting links.
I am so happy with the unit that I just bought another one for the Acer! I cannot think of a better remote than this one - for the price, there is simply no comparision!!
Digital camera Review: Excellent Buy!! Summary: 5 Stars
We watch online movies and animation from the Internet. I hooked up my PC (w/ XP home OS) to a 1080P HD 42" TV. Every time we need to change the episode, we have to get up from the sofa, walk to the TV stand, move the mouse and click on the next episode. After we got this baby, we can move the cursor anywhere we want w/o getting up from the sofa. This thing is easy to use and navigate, plug and play, w/o any software installation.
Digital camera Review: Excellent PC Remote if you use Windows Media Center Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this remote to use with my Home Theater Laptop, and just as others have mentioned, it works right without any installation issues. Windows 7 found and installed the drivers in a matter of minutes, and all the functions work. Unfortunately, I dont use Windows Media Center (WMC) for my digital media playback. I use Boxee, and so only about 25% of the remotes buttons have any use for me. The mouse pad and right/left click buttons work great although the mouse pad thingy takes a bit to get used to.
Digital camera Review: Excellent WMC Remote & IR Sensor Summary: 4 Stars
Ordered for a Quick Remote for Windows Media Center (Windows 7 64 bit). Works as advertised right out of the box. The only problem was that I wanted to use my Logitech Harmony 880 with the supplied IR Sensor and the Logitech configuration for the Microsoft WMC remote does not work. For those trying to configure a Harmony remote, this device is actually supported as an ORtek VMC-1100. The stock Logitech setup for Ortek isn't perfect but functional. I'll tweak it when I have the time. Otherwise, NO complaints at all.
Digital camera Review: Excellent all around! Summary: 5 Stars
True plug and play right out of the box. The controls take a little bit of getting used to but I think that is more how Media Center works than the remote. Great distance (note: this is a line of sight device) so I can control my HTPC from the dining room. No complaints now that I figured (after 6 months...) that you can hit enter to wake up the PC. Oh, the mouse functionality is very lame. An analog stick would have been better. If you point the remote towards the sensor the cursor will crawl. But keep in mind this is a Media Center remote NOT a mouse. For what it does and the price you cannot go wrong.
